I am a 12th grade full IB student (one dual enrollment class too) with a 4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.278 weighted GPA, and 1st/175. My extra curriculars are club member of NHS, varsity xc for 3 years and team captain, President of a high school community service sorority, Vice President of Key Club, peer mentor and on advisory board for the program, student tutor, ER volunteer, Lieutenant Governor for Key Club, Get Out to Vote Fellow for a congress campaign. My awards are Key Club RFL award (international), Silver Academic Honors (school), Outstanding Student Award (school), Student Tutor Award (school), and MHSAA SEC Scholar Athlete Award (regional). I have letters of recommendation from my principal and a CEO of a large corporation. My ACT score is a 28. I am not sure if it is worth retaking it in December. Can someone please tell me if my classes and extra curriculars are able to cover for my ACT score?
Please retake your ACT. Duke is very competitive.
did you apply early?
No
Your ACT is not in the middle 50%, and, since you didn’t go ED, I would assume you are not a recruited athlete. I would suggest you retake the ACT, or you will have trouble with any highly selective school – not just Duke. If you don’t want to retake the ACT, then shoot for Wake Forest (test optional) or a school like Rhodes, Oxford College at Emory (maybe), Sewanee or the University of Richmond. JMO.
