The 3.4 UW GPA makes Mcihigan a reach. Also U-M does not superscore SAT so the 2160 is a meaningless stat. SAT II scores are good but I don’t think Michigan gives much weight to those.

College board says they have highest section policy…but really, if you submit all your SAT scores they’ll notice that some sections are higher than the others even if those were from a different test date, so I wouldn’t worry about that.

There’s no ED for Michigan, just a heads up

My school gives out only weighted gpa. so that 3.4 is really just a complete estimate. So, if i get a 2300+ in one seating. will this increase my chances drastically?

I really regret taking so many hard classes… omg

Michigan weighs GPA much more heavily than test scores.

my school will send my 4.01 Wgpa… isnt that good?

No not really. Average GPA is >3.8 unweighted.

so im not getting in…

Deferred–>Waitlist–>Accept Waitlist–>Rejected

this atmosphere on colleconfidential is killing me. ya’ll are such aszes. *** dude

Don’t ask for honest opinions and then say we’re the *******s when we give you honest, most likely true, advice.

I don’t think anyone was intentionally being malicious, although it may seem that way. People on College Confidential just don’t sugar coat chances. If you are new here I can understand why you might think that they were being jerks, but I can assure you they did not intend to come out that way. It’s just that Michigan cares a TON about your unweighted GPA, and a 3.4 is really bellow average for their admits. The rest of your profile is about average or slightly above, but most of Michigan’s admits have challenging courses in addition to a high GPA.

Is Michigan still possible? Absolutely!
Is it likely? Not really.

Regardless, I wish you luck.

I’m Chinese and from NJ, and I got in this year with a 3.66 unweighted… given, it was probably higher since my senior grades were pretty good.
But I think my strongest aspect were my EC’s. In all honesty, your EC’s are not impressive. Orchestra for an Asian kid? It’s not very “special.” Much too many applicants like you out there.

I would also see how many kids in your school get into Michigan. My school sends a fairly high number of kids, so we must have good relations with admissions there. That can help since Michigan kind of knows the “type” of student that’s coming out of a certain school.

In the end, college admissions are a crap shoot to a certain extent. I would never say someone has 0% chance of getting in. Applying EA will definitely help you though.
