Hi BWynn.
Your chances look fine. I hate these chancings because none of us are admissions officers and more important, none of us know what this years EA pool looks like. BC is obviously not a reach for you, but its not a safety either which means you will just have to wait.

I think you need to look through the profiles of other students that are applying to see where you fit in. You will know soon enough but there is nothing you can do about it right now so relax.

If you are not admitted to BC, where else are you applying?

I have EA out at notre dame. Also applying to Northwestern, William and Mary, Georgetown, UIllinois, Boston University, UVirginia, Virginia Tech.

Dear BWynne : Thanks very much for the private message - let's take a look at your application.

First, your standardized test scores are within the top quartile at BC with a 1450 SAT two-way and 33 ACT composite. Both scores are easily going to catch the eye of admissions - these are typically the scores you will see from students offered a position in the Honors Program.

Sometimes, I wish High Schools would cease the creative GPA practices : a maximum of 5.3? Your GPA in the 4.0 range would imply (typically) a "B" average against a 5.3 scale which would run counter to your test scores. None the less, it looks like your test scores do out-perform your GPA. So, that might be a negative on your application.

Your AP curriculum looks full : personally, I prefer seeing the Calc BC exam with an AB subscore as opposed to just the Calc AB program, but at least you are doing collegiate mathematics. Unusual to see Latin AP in a High School curriculum which will catch some notice. Please note that "5"s in Micro/Macro will give you a shot at the Honors Economics program if you are interested.

Sports (swimming) along with extra curriculars are fine. Again, the Honor Societies are expected at this level and glad to see they are there.

You did not call out any music or arts material here - and likely the religious group activity should have had some level of volunteerism within your work.

You will get an acceptance to BC provided that your essays were up to par.

Last year, the overlap on acceptances between Georgetown and BC was huge - expect that correlation to continue this year. Not sure Northwestern will be the same experience that you would get with either Georgetown or BC. All of your other schools will be slam-dunks for acceptance.

Best of luck and let us know how it all turns out!

thanks scottj. In terms of the GPA, it's actually is an A- average. The system is set up to compensate for an inability to take all weighted classes. Although it says 5.3, the highest achievable GPA is a 5.

In terms of Art and Music, I have a curriculum in movie making. The documentary I briefly mentioned here was a combination of volunteer service and arts, and it was stressed heavily in the application. I have no music.

Latin AP is not offered in my high school, but I'm planning on taking it.

Hmm...it's really a toss up. On the one hand, your SAT/ACT scores are definitely good enough. But on the other hand, that's a pretty low GPA for someone who seems to take a decent amount of AP classes. What's your unweighted? Perhaps that would give a better example of who you are.

Also, your ECs seem a bit weak because of no real leadership positions (treasurer and team captain are a bit stock). Do you have any awards for forensics or swimming? That would show that you accomplished something, weren't just a member.

The BC Summer Program definitely helps, as does your religion (despite what they may say!). What are you looking to major in?

I'd say that it is about 60/40 odds in your favor of getting in EA, probably a bit better for RD. Good luck!

Oh, and Notre Dame, Northwestern, Georgetown, and UVA are all slight reaches. You're definitely in at Illinois, BU, and VT, and W&M is likely but not definite.

my unweigted GPA is a 3.65 out of a possible 4. 3.5 is the equivalent of a 90.

I have a lot of awards for both swimming and forensics, which were sent to BC but that I didn't post here.
I also had 4 leadership positions for Boy Scouts listed on my app. Just realized that they weren't there.

I'm looking to major in political science, and then on to law school. Part of the reason that my weighted is low (hopefully BC realizes this) is that I took unweighted classes in law and politics, which average in as a full point lower than weighted classes on the 5.3 scale. Part of the reason is that I did relatively bad freshman year. The good news is that my GPA has been getting progressively stronger for the past 3 years.
