Hi, I am looking to study architecture when I graduate high school. I have an 87 unweighted GPA (out of 100). I have not taken the ACT yet, but I am projected to get a 30. Ideally, I will be getting a 33. I am currently a sophomore in high school, so I intend on getting my GPA up to a 90. The school I currently attend is a prestigious, rigorous, college prep school.
What are my chances with each of the following schools?
University of Illinois at Champaign
California Polytechnic State University
Notre Dame University
Illinois institute of Technology
University of Michigan Ann-Arbor
University of Chicago
Southern California Institute of Architecture
If any of you know any other good architecture programs, please leave it in the comments. Thank you(:
University of Illinois at Champaign - Match if in-state
California Polytechnic State University - Match
Notre Dame University - Mid reach
Illinois institute of Technology - Don’t know much about but probably safety/low match
University of Michigan Ann-Arbor - Low reach if oos
University of Chicago - High reach
Southern California Institute of Architecture - Not a clue
@musiclover131: There are 2 Cal Polys, San Luis Obispbo (SLO) and Pomona (CPP). SLO is a tough admit, while CPP is a bit easier. Both are very good programs but OOS will cost you around $32-35K/year with little to no financial aid if needed.
I was looking at SLO. Do you think I can get into that one? Cost isn’t an issue for me. My parents are willing to help me out with whichever college I go to. They’re pushing for Northwestern… But I doubt I’ll get in with my grades and scores XD
http://pva.com/assets/Magazine.pdf You can take a look at this to see some good architecture programs (schools list and description starts on page 18). I don’t know much about these schools (aside of cal poly, which seems like a match/safety to me, depending on how you do on the ACT), but I do know that some of them require a portfolio and some do not. Different schools weight/don’t weight portfolios differently, as far as I know, so that’s a potentially large part of your application that’s missing here. You should probably work on getting those stats up/getting actual stats in terms of test results before you worry about where you’ll get accepted. Although it’s far off, good luck when you do apply!
Cal Poly-SLO admits by intended major, with some departments much more heavily “impacted” than others. Your junior grades and test scores are absolutely critical, and so any effort to “chance” you right now is meaningless.
