HI guys i would really appreciate some help
I'm planning on applying early decision to Columbia. Here is some stuff about me:
I scored a 2300 on my SAT. I got a 770 on the US SAT II, a 720 on the Chem SAT II, and a 720 on my Math 2 SAT II.
I have a 4.577 weighted GPA and a 3.96 unweighted.
I took three APs this year (US History, Chemistry, and Studio Art) and scored 5s on each test. I am taking 5 APs next year in addition to Biology Honors, Philosophy High Honors, and two honors language classes (Chinese and Hebrew).
I am involved in many extracurricular activities. I am the president and founder of the Partners in Health club (2 years), I volunteer at a dog shelter twice a week for about 4 hours (4 years), I am on my school's Student Design Team (3 years), I have a leadership position in the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society, I am a mentor/tutor at my school (3 years), and I am a Student Representative (6 years). I also just got accepted as a member of the Partners in Health Steering Committee at Stanford. (1 of 2 high schoolers, 7 members from across the country total).
I have been on my school's high honor roll every year and I recently received the award for social action from Brown University Leadership Institute.
Let me know if you think that there is anything I should improve on. Thanks!!

I’d say they will accept you in a heartbeat Great stats! Good luck.

Looks good to me…Did you visit Columbia? How do you know for sure you want it?

^ and if you need financial aid, think twice if you are unsure of a binding contract. If not, everything sounds good.

Yes I have visited a few times and I’m going for an overnight visit in about a month. Also my cousin goes to Barnard so I have visited her a few times. The reasons that I am applying ED are that I really love the core curriculum and the fact that everyone is taking similar classes, they have amazing opportunities for students to take advantage of New York’s cultural events/programs, and they have the exact major that I’m interested in (human rights). I also have visited many other schools and know that even though I could be happy somewhere else Columbia is definitely my first choice. I’m also not applying for financial aid so thats why I think that ED is the best option for me.
Thanks so much for the help!

I have just visited the schools website, and in the part where they tell about the early decision, and how serious the binding contract is, they also mention that the only chance of calling the contract off is when you have problems with the fin aid.

So is this true? Because there are old threads just on this issue, and everybody has been saying that ed is binding, no matter what your fin aid is, so ed and fin aid dont go well together. But the website says the other way…

sorry to deviate the topic.

^ Don’t count on it. It’s a rare occurrence, and only a few people get off the ED contract because of finaid troubles. And even then, they are supposed to go to a cheaper state school.

“everybody has been saying that ed is binding, no matter what your fin aid is”

What are they going to do, somehow force you to attend, and then expel you when you can’t pay the bill? Seriously, how often do you think that happens? That would be great PR for the school. ;)

That’s why all you have to do is tell them the aid isn’t enough, if that’s the case. That’s why the common app rule is:
https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/docs/downloadforms/ED_Agreement.pdf

That makes a lot more sense. I was going to say that if you were forced to go that would be ridiculous. I’m looking at Columbia and early decision as well. I have 2300+ SAT score and a 3.95 GPA, but I am also looking at applying to other Ivy’s early decision as well.

Oh and wow on the extracurricular activities list. That’s almost ridiculous. How do you do it all?

Impressive! You have a good chance

thank you! just working on apps now i appreciate all the feedback
