Chances for East Coast CS Schools?

<p>I'm currently a Junior and quite concerned about my chances at some of the more top tier schools that I am looking towards. I have a decent GPA and SAT score (in my opinion) but I'm slacking in the field of math.</p>

<p>Ethnicity: Asian
GPA: 3.8W
SAT: 2010 (670 CR, 680 M, 660 W)
Rank: Top 25% in class of ~200</p>

<p>SAT II:
Math 2C - 760
US History - around 750 (will be taking the test this Saturday)</p>

<p>AP:
AP Euro - 4
(projected) AP US History - 5
(projected) AP Lang - 4
(projected) AP Chemistry - 3 (yeah... that's a problem)
(senior year) AP Calculus
(senior year) AP Literature
(senior year) AP Physics</p>

<p>Classes:
Math - Geometry Honors (B+), Precalc (B-), Calc Honors (A-), AP Calc (senior year)
English - English 9 (A), English 10 (A), AP Lang (B+), AP Lit (senior year)
Business - Took Intro to Business and Marketing I (mandatory)
Foreign Language - Spanish 9 Honors (B), Spanish 10 Honors (B-), Spanish 11 (A)
History - AP Euro (A), US History Honors (A-), AP US History (A-), AP Gov (senior year)
Science - Biology (B+), Chemistry Honors (B-), AP Chemistry (B-)
Other - Visual Basics (A), Physics (A)</p>

<p>EC:
Cross Country - 3 Years
Track and Field - 3 Years
Library Volunteer - 2 Years (50+ Hours)
School Newspaper - 3 Years
* Layout Editor for Newspaper for ~2 years
Computer Club - 3 Years
Marching Band - 1 Year</p>

<p>CS Experience:
Knowledge in Java, Javascript, C#, Visual Basic, Python
Have made several programs in Javascript and Node.js (code is up on Github)
A bit of graphic/UI design on Deviantart (works featured on prominent technology websites).</p>

<p>Colleges:
CMU (reach)
RPI (goal)
Lehigh
SUNY Albany
SUNY Binghamton
Stevens
Stony Brook
Rutgers Engineering</p>

<p>What are my chances for getting into these colleges? Thanks guys.</p>

<p>Bump. I’ll chance back!</p>

<p>CMU - extremely probable rejection, sorry to say. A 2010 and a 3.8W will not cut it for the School of Computer Science, especially as an Asian. Exception would only be made if you were a programming savant or something.
RPI - high match, maybe at worst a low reach. RPI would probably like to see a bit more strength in STEM-related classes, and your ECs don’t steal the show, but it’s definitely feasible. If you retake the SAT and improve significantly, it will help a good deal.
Lehigh - match
SUNY Albany - safety
SUNY Binghamton - match, maybe a low match
Stevens Tech - match, maybe a low match
Stony Brook - low match
Rutgers - don’t know much at all about, but I think you’re good</p>

<p>I see you getting rejected from CMU, on the bubble for RPI, and good for the rest of the list (save maybe Lehigh). If you’re really into RPI, I would suggest applying ED so long as your family doesn’t need to compare fin. aid packages. I personally visited both Lehigh and RPI; didn’t love the feel for either, but I have a friend going to the former (he applied ED and had very similar stats to you) and he very much enjoys it.</p>

<p>Thanks for the reply! Yeah I was thinking the same about CMU and will probably just send it in just to try.</p>

<p>For RPI, I’m really interested in going to the college and will probably apply ED in the Fall. I’m retaking the SATs soon so my scores will most likely improve.</p>

<p>Appreciate the help.</p>
