<p>Hey, I'm a senior at a very competitive private school in Houston, TX. We send a few kids to Ivies every year and tons of kids to semi-Ivies (northwestern, rice, vandy, etc.) </p>

<p>GPA: ~3.5 (school doesn't rank)
SAT: 2200 (770 M, 730 CR, 700 W)
SAT IIs: US History 710, Math II 660 (retaking)
APs: last year US History 4, Calc AB 3, this year Statistics and English IV
Honors: Alg II, Chem, Pre-Cal, Physics

Vice President Film Club (3 yr member)
Communications Director India Club (VERY involved, founding member)

Volunteer for Indo-American Charity Foundation for 6 years
Youth Leadership Development Program (get to meet with community leaders like the Mayor and business execs and do an internship)
Job Coach Assistant for the Lighthouse of Houston (worked with blind teenagers and helped them gain life skills, paid position)
Intern for Finance Company (researched companies and made presentations to investors, paid position)
Teen Council, Contemporary Arts Museum (a council of teenagers who plan art events and bring art to the community of houston teenagers) </p>

<p>Though it would help if you could calculate your exact weighted/unweighted GPA from your transcript, your application is definitely good enough for all of the schools you listed; Emory and Vanderbilt should be no problem.</p>

<p>Might look at Tufts and Holy Cross in the Boston area both very good schools.</p>

<p>quick update. exact GPA is 3.46 weighted. average accepted for Emory from my school is a 3.7, exact same with Vandy. My counselor said I have only an outside shot and I know that my rank isn’t exactly great because there are plenty of kids who have realistic shots at Ivies. does that change anything? b/c there’s no way I thought Emory/Vandy would be “no problem” schools but thanks for that haha</p>
