Chances for ED as rising senior??

I know the numbers work against me, but since JHU conducts a holistic review I was hoping my EC’s and other parts of my app could make up for them. Thanks guys!
My profile is:
Expected Major: Economics/Philosophy
SAT I (breakdown): 2160 single sitting (780/M 720/W 660/CR) 2220 Super (780/M 720/W 720/CR) - New test 1500 (700 RW/ 800 M 8/8/8 essay) (Which of these should I send?)
SAT II: Taking them in June but my expected scores are above a 750 on both US and Math 2
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.75 :frowning: (Using the JHU recalculation) - All of my B’s happened sophomore year due to a personal issue that I’m going have my GC tell JHU. Further junior year I am getting strait A’s with a very rigorous schedule so I’m hoping that helps.
Weighted GPA: 4.35 (Using same calculation)
School doesn’t report rank but should be in top 10%
AP : World history (4), Stats(5), Taking USH, Physics and Lang right now (I’m a junior) - but I don’t plan on reporting my scores on the initial app (or should I??)
Senior Year Course Load: AP Physics 2, AP calc AB, AP Lit, AP Micro, AP Macro, AP Comp Gov, AP Psychology, Advanced research program
Other stuff that might help:
The average GPA that got accepted into JHU was a 97 (Our school only does it on a 100 point scale). Using that scale my GPA is a 96.65.
The average accepted SAT is a 2120 - single and 2160 - cumlative.
Also most kids applying from my school apply to BME or a premed major if that changes anything.

Extracurriculars (This is what I’m banking my app on):
National Debate/Forensics:
NSDA(National Speech and Debate Association) All State, NSDA Academic All American, NSDA school ambassador to the national committee of policy making, School team debate captain, Ranked within the top 40 in the nation for Lincoln Douglas Debate. Top NSDA point scorer on our school team(we have one of the biggest teams in the state), Received octofinalist (top 16) or better at the following national tournaments (All had competitor pools of about 200): Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, College Preparatory School, Scarsdale. Bump

BUMP plz…

First of all, I think that you should stop freaking out. You bumped your post twice in around 3 hours after posting it.
Chance threads are often inaccurate for the simply reason that nobody knows what’s happening with college admissions.
Regarding your chances, here are my thoughts

  1. Your GPA is a little low, but nothing that can’t be overcome. However, you have to understand that the average of 97 that you found can be misleading, as some people have amazing extracurriculars.
  2. Regarding your test scores, just send all f them. They won’t count it against you. I would retake the SAT and study through the summer before taking the SAT or even the ACT again. Who knows, you might be an ACT person.
  3. I don’t think that you can project yourself getting over a 750 on the SAT II tests. Even if you are practicing and scoring 750s on each practice test, there is no guarantee until you take it.
  4. It seems like your debate activities are your main EC. I have no idea on what scale your accomplishments are, but they seem pretty impressive. Impressive enough to make up for poor numerical stats? Maybe
  5. This is probably going to sound really racist, but ethnicity?

@vrhou98 I’m white/Iranian so probably no URM

EDIT: I miscalculated my GPA a little:
9-11 UW: 3.83
10-11 UW: 3.8
9-11 W: 4.35
10-11 W: 4.375

Will this change anything about my chances?

What is the JHU Grade conversion? Can you post it below??

My School Grade is IB and is as:

7=A, 6=A, 5=B,4=C and so on. Help please

4.3 - A+ 4 - A 3.7 - A- 3.3 - B+ …
The only classes you count are 10th and 11th grade academic classes.

What’s important to remember though is that this statistic is NOT used in the admissions process. It is only used for public data. JHU looks at the entire history of classes you take as in rigor and results.

Lol come on man, your grades changed by about 0.1 or less. Little would change regarding whatever your chances are (and most of us posting on the JHU thread hate chancing). Your grades appear reasonably near the average of accepted students, which clearly means you have a decent chance of being accepted. Beyond that all you can do moving forward is get the best grades, highest test scores, best recs, stand out in meaningful ECs and fill out the best application.

Basically weighted GPA may not necessarily be officially calculated, but of course rigor is considered. Convert your 7.0 scale GPA to a percent and then translate it into a 4.0 scale. On the 4.0 scale an A- is a 3.7 and a B+ is a 3.3 etc. So make sure your school also does a similar grading approach for grading or adjust as a percent as need be if not (a 3.7 grade (A-) is 0.925 of 4.0 which is a 6.475 on a 7.0 scale, etc). Also note that repeated coursework does not replace the lower grade so make sure you count both.

As for the IB system with 6 and 7 = A then I’m sure there is a percent different so maybe the 6=A is closer to an A- on the 4.0 scale? Check with the thread I posted, check online or ask JHU admissions.
