Hello,
I'd really appreciate it if you (anyone here) chanced me for Harvey Mudd. I'm in love with the school and would like to see how I'd do. I'll PM more details about my school to anyone who wants it. Thank you so much for the help!

School: Ranked high in the state (highest SAT scores, most Ap testers get a 5)
Gender: Male
Intended Major: I have my highest interest in biochemistry (which isn't as common of a major there). Will this help or hurt?

ACT: 35 (11 on the essay, 33 in the "English" section)
SAT: 2270, may retake and will probably do better (800 math, 750 CR, 720 writing 10 essay)
GPA: 4.26 weighted (out of 5.0) which puts me somewhere around top 12% to top 5% of the class. We don't have ranks. I do better in math and science courses.
SAT Subject Tests: 800 math II, 800 USH, 800 chem
AP tests: 5 APUSH 5 APChem (will take more AP's next year but test results won't be out)

Essays: I think they will be quite good... I'm planning to write about how I tried to teach my chem class Organic Chemistry
Recs: Both probably good, the teachers liked me and know my strengths and weaknesses and think I'm fairly bright

EC's:
-I was in band for 3 years, going to play orchestra this year (with clarinet) played in districts some times, generally good at the instrument (not excellent) and want to continue to play in the orchestra
-Internships over the summer
-100 hours at a museum one year, didn't do after that
-Some minor programs
-Spend a lot of time teaching myself various subjects. Even though this isn't recorded, I'll emphasize it in the interviews
-Play chess informally

I tend to avoid formalized activities and stick to myself, so I don't have too many extra-curriculars. I avoided the science and math team because very few of the people there were actually interested in science or math– they were just doing it for college admissions. Quite a toxic environment.

Any ideas? Any suggestions as to improve myself? I finished my junior year, any suggestions would be helpful.

I take all honors/AP courses except for English (but my English teacher is writing my rec.

The UW that people usually talk about out here does include those non-core classes. Colleges often strip those out, but to be able to compare you to other applicants it would be more useful to know your GPA with those non-core classes. I don’t really have an opinion on ED I vs. ED II. If you can find statistics on the admissions stats for those pools I suppose that might help you decide. Not sure if the common data set shows that granular a breakdown, though.

As I said above, you seem like a strong candidate. The acceptance rate is quite low, so going in one of the ED pools is a really good idea. Make sure you have your essays reviewed by someone, just a good idea generally. It seems like Mudd is looking for more depth in their essays than some other colleges. This is probably obvious to you, but I wouldn’t mention the part about avoiding formalized activities and sticking to yourself – write positively about the things you have chosen to do and let your enthusiasm show through. If you can make the case for Mudd being a good fit for you, I would say you have a decent chance in the ED pool.

Hey Could anyone chance me ED at Harvey Mudd. I am an international male student.
GPA: 3.90
IB predicted 43/45
SAT 2340
SAT 2: 800 in physics and maths
ECs: State level cricket and soccer, loads of service, student council, published a book and a research paper plus science fairs and things of that nature
Recs are expected to be really good and my essay will be good too
OP, I agree, you appear to have a good shot at Mudd. But be warned “sticking to yourself” isn’t the way to go once you are at Mudd. It’s a very collaborative atmosphere.
@V15498 - You should start your own thread. It’s not polite to hijack someone else’s.
Agree about another thread, but since you are here… because you are international full pay and have good stats, I’d say your odds are better than the average applicant. Fit (as evidenced mostly from your essay and recommendations) will be very important. Without knowing what is in those, it is hard to speculate further. Only someone from admissions could give you an actual percentage estimate, and they don’t post here.
