I know my chances aren't great. How does Dartmouth treat sub-par freshman grades? Will my high SAT / EC's make up for it?

Thanks a lot.

I would say that your chances are pretty good. Your GPA is a tad low compared to other Dartmouth applicants, but because its an upward trend it could work to your advantage. But I don’t see how you could have raised your GPA .6 points in one year (9th-10th) that seems like a huge leap. Your rank is pretty good, SATs, APs, and Awards are also pretty good. I think your ECs are just a bit scarce though. All in all a good chance.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, I mostly included those EC’s about which I’m most passionate. I didn’t bother writing Science Bowl, Engineering Teams since I was only involved for 1-2 years.

I’m applying to Dartmouth ED as well! Absolutely solid test scores. Nice upward trend, just maintain your GPA and I think you’ll have as good a chance as anybody. :)

Thanks. I hope so too

Bump

quite a decent chance though ECs could use some work

Yeah. But I still think my GPA is the weakest part of the app. I checked my school’s database today (very competitive public, top in state) and out of the 16 people that applied last year only 2 got in with the average GPA being 3.89/4.7 :/
