Chances for ED (good EC's?)

I am confident about my EC's and such but I am a little worried about the academic part (I'd say it's borderline for Cornell)

What do you guys think?

White, Male, Ohio, Senior
School: competitive private
GPA: 3.85 W hoping to bring it up to 3.9
ACT: 30
AP Us History - 3
AP Chem - 3
AP Calculus BC - taking now
AP English Language - taking now
AP Statistics - taking now
1st honors all 4 year

EC's

Eagle Scout with multiple awards and leadership positions
200+ service hours
Manager at a GNC (general nutrition center) for 4 years
National Honor Society
St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society (Offer pallbearer services to the poor or needy)
Latin Club/Tutoring - 2 years
Math Club - Tutoring
Green (environmental) team - 2 years

Athletics

Varsity Crew - Captain for 4 years (for varsity, jv, and freshmen) placed at nationals and team regularly wins Midwest championship

Rowing Club (fall season) - Captain all 4 years

Hobbies

Build computers (the one I'm typing on now)
Juggling (attended World Juggling Federation national championships in 9th grade)
Charity runs

Oh and I should mention that I'm applying to Arts and Sciences and want to major in Mathematics and that my essay is "supposedly" one of the two best my college counselor has seen this year so far. So my essay should be a strong factor.

Being a manager definitely works to your advantage, but those test scores are a bit low. Not taking Satiis?

I think your ECs are outstanding, though, so that puts you definitely in the range for being competitive with the other ED students

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I am taking the Math 1, Math 2, and Chemistry SATii's this weekend.

ECs look great. Any idea on class rank/percentile?

I would call Cornell and see if they would accept Oct 25th ACT scores and RETAKE it if they do. If you improve, send it, if not, send 30 Comp.

Cornell seems to love crew/rowing, have you contacted athletic dept re: participating at Cornell?

Well my school doesn't rank so I don't think I have to worry about that.

And I'm going to be visiting overnight soon and the coach said I can come to a practice and he will show me around, however they are the best lightweight team in the nation and being recruited is near impossible (you have to have godly scores).

And yep, I am going to retake the ACT and hope to improve it a point or two (the website says "by at least October" to take the test...)

So Oct. testing should be okay. What's your ACT comp breakdown by section? SAT subject tests? PM me if you prefer...

I haven't taken any subject tests yet =/ That's why I'm scared that if I blow it this weekend on the tests i blow everything.

And the breakdown is:

English 30

Math 29

Reading 33

Science 26 (gotta fix that, I just didn't get to finish)

Subject tests Oct 4th? Which ones?

Math 1, Math 2, and Chemistry

I'm scared that if I blow it this weekend on the tests i blow everything. Are they bad at all? i've been reading the Chem book and i still have to study the math book (princeton review) beforehand.

Sorry, Chiliman, but are what bad at all--not clear on what you mean... the subject tests?

Haha sorry, I meant "Are those tests tough at all?". I think they should be fine...

Check other posts on CC re: difficulty of these... Math II is, of course, more difficult than Math I but (supposedly) has a better curve. As a math major, I would think they would expect you would do well. (You will!)
BTW: Do not go out Friday night!! Save that for Saturday!!!

haha alright thanks!
