I’m an ASIAN male in Texas.

I’m sitting at number 2 in a class out of 880-890.
4.0 uw
4.6 w

I took the SAT three times with a superscore of 2290 (CR 720, Math 800, Writing 770). In one sit in, highest i’ve gotten is: 2200 (CR 720, M 780, W 700).
ACT: 32, not too fond of breakdown. will be taking once more in the fall, hoping to crack 34.

SAT II’s: 780 math 2, 650 chem. will be taking bio in the fall to hopefully replace my chem score.

Here are all the AP classes i’ve taken:

Freshman: AP Human Geo - 4
Soph: AP Spanish Lang - 3
Junior: no scores yet

AP Chem

I am enrolled in all honors classes and have taken 4 years of spanish.

For my senior year i plan on taking:

I also play the piano outside of school (6+ years)
I have won numerous awards
300+ volunteer hours
key club, NHS, volunteering camps, etc
Volunteer presidential award 2014 and 2015 (100+ hours in one year)
I have previous volunteer experience at a local hospital during the summer.
I also will be attending multiple summer camps at universities including UT, UH, etc.
I will also probably shadowing at a practice this summer.

I’m looking into applying early to Rice but idk if I have a chance. Please respond back, I’ll give yall feedback too!
Also, I want to go into engineering at Rice. Not sure of specific engineering field.

You have a really good chance. GPA, rank, SAT, course rigor, and ECs are all great. As long as you write decent essays and have good letters of rec you should be able to make regular decision. ED will give you an even better chance.

You’ve got pretty strong extracurriculars and you’re obviously smart enough to get in. Make sure you get great recommendations and write the best essays you’ve ever written. If you can get a higher score on your ACT, then you’ve got a good shot at getting in.

I think you’ve got a good chance, your ECs are really good! I think it is a good idea to maybe try to improve your test scores but that shouldn’t be the main thing. I agree with the other posters - good recs and good essays will give you a solid shot! Best of luck! :slight_smile:
