Chances for ED next year

I'm currently a junior and NYU is my top choice for college next next year.

I've taken SATs twice
first time I got CR: 630 M: 590 W:600
second CR: 670 M: 590 W: 590
Not the best but I plan to take the ACT which I think I'll do a lot better on. I'm also taking the math 2, lit, and us history subject tests in June. I took World History last year and got a 750.

GPA
Sophomore: 4.23 (weighted)
Sophomore and Freshman combined: 4.1 (weighted)
Junior year so far: 3.96 (UW) 4.3(W)

I have taken AP World (5). This year I'm in AP US and AP Lang. Next year I'm taking AP Bio, AP Lit, AP Calc BC, and AP Gov.
I can speak an intermediate level of Spanish. (Will have taken 4 years next year)

Extra Curriculars
I am on my school's newspaper and serve as the Managing Editor right now and will probably have the same position next year. I have served on it since freshman year.

I am a part of my school's National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. I plan to run for positions in both clubs next year, mostly because I want them to be more active.

I am a part of the school's Key Club and Invisible Children branch (raises awareness about child soldiers in northern Uganda).

I have a little bit of volunteering experience but I want to get a lot more involved in my community. I am currently apart of my city's Red Cross Youth Action Team.

For the past two years I have worked as a lifeguard at the pools on my military base. A few months ago I got certified for WSI and have been teaching lessons since then. I've also worked at my mother's daycare really since I was since 6th grade.

Sports
JV Cheerleader for 9th and 10th grade. In 10th grade I was the team's captain. Also I am a part of club volleyball outside of school.
For 11th grade I served as one of the football team's managers which took about 20 hours a week out of my life during the fall.

I'm also looking at Brown, Columnia, GWU, BU, BC, Georgetown, and University of Rochester.

for a better assessment, your total UW grade would be helpful, but i digress. your SAT score is pretty low. you might get LSP’d, otherwise, low reach.

no offence, but you should take brown off the list. i don’t think they’re going to take you w/ that SAT score no matter how high the GPA

I’m not completely sure of my unweighted because my school only gives us weighted. I think for freshman year it was around 3.7 or 3.8. Sophomore it was at least 3.9.

I think we need your rank… raise that SAT score and you’re definitely in. you also have the option to just submit a bunch of APs or SAT IIs (go to the website for specifics). I would consider that.

u’ll def get in for early decision. i knew a few people who had slightly lower sat scores and got in ED and RD (in the LSP school)

I’m in the top 5% of my class. Theres about 800 kids in the class i think.

Yeah I’m probably submitting three subject tests. The World from last year unless I do better on US. Lit when I take it and Math.

haha we are the same with SAT scores. i took it twice too! I did way better on the ACT though, so maybe that will be the same for you? I got a 31 ACT, so that translates way higher than my SAT on the conversion table. I am doing Gallatin ED, which stresses the “independent” nature of a student, and your ECs and everything seem to support that mind set, so maybe you should check that out? Best of luck! :)

haha nooo way. i got a 31 too!
yeah i was gonna do cas but then i found gallatin and thought it was the perfect fit for me.
same to you too! hopefully well be seeing each other sometime in the fall of 2011. :)

haha that is too bizarre!!! and yes, hopefully we will! (if i don’t die of anxiety between now and december…) ahahhaa.

oh, i know the feeling. i almost wish december 15th would be here already so i would know and not have to go through this anxiety.

haha i am totally with you. i just want to know either way, it would just make me a lot less stressed! haaaa, despite the fact that it’s almost out of our hands at this point. are you doing the common app or the nyu specific one (through embark)?

i hadnt really decided yet. you?

I think you need to get higher standardized testing scores for prospective admittance into NYU. I would say that if you scored anywhere in the middle 50%, everything else in your resume would make up for any “flaws.”

i’m thinking about the nyu one because i’ve heard that it gives you more room to be “creative” than the common app does, but i guess ill have to do some better investigating ahahaahaa.

what school are you applying to?

im applying to gallatin

Do not apply ED if money is an issue. Your FA may not be as good as RD.
