Chances for ED Wesleyan and Swarthmore

<p>I've posted this information previously, but in context of a thread focusing on more general information about how certain colleges I was considering were perceived/operated. In this case, I'm specifically asking for my chances in Wesleyan University (for an in-state) and Swarthmore University. </p>

<p>Intended Major: Chemistry, possible a dual major with History or Biology
School: Public
GPA: 4.3, top 12-15 of class of 400+
SAT: 2260 (700 M, 770 CR, 790 W) (Retaking)
SAT-II's: Literature: 770 US History: 780, Physics: 780, Chemistry: 790
AP Exams:
Physics B 5
European History 5
US History 5
Chemistry 5
English Language and Composition 5</p>

<p>Current AP Classes: Psychology, Biology, Calculus AB, English Literature</p>

<p>Sex/Gender/Background: White, Male, 1st Generation Central European Immigrant</p>

<p>Awards:
AP Scholar with Distinction
National Merit Scholar
PSAT Semi-Finalist
ACS National Chemistry Olympiad Regional Exam Finalist, National Exam Participant
Science National Honor Society
University of Rochester/Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award (given to the Junior considered to be the most capable science student in his or her graduating class)</p>

1-month Chemistry Internship at Trinity College
Regional Science Bowl 10-12th Grade
Quiz Bowl 12th Grade
Volunteering at Local Hospital 11-12th Grade (A mere 60 Hours)
Martial Arts 11-12th Grade
Part-time job at a local Pharma: 11-12th Grade</p>

<p>As is quite clear here, my extra-curricular record is not precisely stellar. I'm certainly going to apply to one of these schools early decision, but given the selectivity of both I'm uncertain as to whether I have realistic chances at either. Can anyone advise?</p>

<p>Go for it. They’re not called reaches for nothing. Don’t let the fact that you are from a populous northeastern state cause you to lower your sights. I think your gender plays in your favor; both schools get way more applicants from women than men. As you said, in the other thread, Wesleyan does tag science majors. Swarthmore may be looking for a bit more quirkiness, just because they already have 30% of their student body majoring in sci/math or engineering – but, that’s no reason to talk yourself out of applying, if Swat is your first choice.</p>
