Chances for ED

Okay, I tried really hard not to do it....but I couldn't resist anymore

Pakistani-American male from Northern VA (came to U.S. 3 and half years ago). I go to a pretty good HS (with really harsh grading....94+A)

SAT:690CR,680M,640W (I did so much better on the ACT)
SATII:US History 740, World History 720, Math 2 700
Intended Major: Woodrow Wilson, History, Politics
Certificates: Near East, Environmental, East Asia

ECs and stuff:

News Editor of my school newspaper...pretty good one actually
Founder of a club that helps immigrants assimilate
President of Latin Club
Co-founder of Just World Project
First place in school science fair
Highest score in Math Varsity team
In all three honor societies
Internship at a law firm
Model UN
Young Democrats
Raised 30,000 for tsunami...working on earthquake right now
registered 600 people to vote

My parents know absolutely nothing about American education system, and I am not from a very affluent family either.

So, given all this information, what do you guys reckon are my chances at ED.

I really love Princeton....my theory is that if I don't apply my chances are 0%, if I do apply, at least I have some chance.

scores and grades are decent (except sat ii's), ec's slightly above avereage....hard to tell cuz you dont seem to have any "hook" (recruited athlete, urm, legacy) - avg chances

thanx Sphinctor....

anyone else?

OP states school has harsh grading (i.e. 94+ A). Just for curiosity, what is the average grading scale for most schools? Does it depend on the state, county or individual school? I thought 94-100 for an A was the norm in high school. Is this wrong?

haha just out of curiosity, annandale high school? yea, i know about the whole 94-100 grading scale, talked to admissions director and she said that they'll definetely take that into account when the transcript gets sent in.

i'm a mclean, va-er. you're probably not that far from me. haha

I hope they do that...cuz in my school, 88-90 = B, 91-93 = B+, 94-95 A-, 96-98 = A, and 99-100 A+. Its ridiculous...no normal high school has this scale!

We do not have + or - at my school, only letters. What is the normal grading scale for schools?

Hey, I'm from Singapore.

Here, an A is 70. 70 percent. And its considered really good to get all As. The standard here is higher here though, like SAT IIC Math stuff is covered in grade 9.

I went on an exchange program to a top school in Sydney when I was in grade 9, was put in the grade 12 stuff and knew it all already.

They concentrate so much on academics here, its crazy. I'm thinking its pretty easy in the US, such that ppl like u guys can be scoring in the 90s all the time.

Just a general comment on the differences n education systems worldwide- crazy.

oh, by the way callthecops, my school has your grading scale too

where is your school sphinctor81?

missouri, urs?

mine was in korea...

sphictor wasnt suggesting anything of the sort, sorry if i didnt make myself clear. i tried sending u a personal msg but ur settings dont allow it.

The point I was trying to make was about the different emphasis placed on different area. In spore its all academics. In america its on an allround education, which is exactly why so many intl students want to study in america. Dont get me wrong. Its amazing how u guys are scoring 90+, thats phenomenal.

i love how the thread totally drifted away from my chances to grading scales.

Gotta expect it, all these multi tasking minds on here would be horribly bored if they stuck to one topic ;)

Probably about average - work on your presentation...Wish there was some way you could not send the SAT scores though, ACT is very good...But they'll see your SAT I scores with your SAT II scores...shrugs

Just do the best you can! Good luck!!!
