I just noticed that I have not posted a chance thread in the Rice forum. I would really appreciate anyone who doesn't mind evaluating what chances I may have at Rice. I have applied Early Decision.

Strengths: I think my strongest points are my numbers (scores, rank, etc.) although my more subjective points are not bad. I also think I have done well in the context of my school/community.
Weaknesses: In hindsight I could have polished my essays a bit more.

I modeled this after a "results" thread. What a nice way to pass the waiting time!

I think you have a real good chance of getting in Rice. Especially since you are from Texas and applying ED. All your numbers look real good (math could be slightly higher). But all in all- great job! Good Luck!!

^ Exactly. The high percentage of students from Texas is probably due to the sheer number of applicant they receive from Texas. Usually, being in-state for a competitive school is a disadvantage since there are so many applications from your state. Often times schools want to increase their geographic diversity, making it even more competitive for in-state applicants.

I’ve applie early decision as well I’m a female African American btw but you seem like a shoo in really smart and active in your school as am I but my numbers are just too low think mid 20 acts lol but I hope you do well

I have heard it is more difficult for Texas applicants and even more so for Houstonians (I’m from the Houston area). The admissions staff often deny this assertion, but I find it easier to believe that they want to increase geographic diversity.

I have also heard that siblings at Rice help. I hope this is true!

Shouldn’t it hurt being from TX @ricehopkinsmom? Just asking. Since 50% of all applicants are from TX and they’ll want more geo diversity? Idk, just another viewpoint. But @megall being African Am might kind of negate your low ACT scores.

I have tried to find the % of applicants from Texas and can’t find that info. It seems like some of the better schools show a little more loyalty to their home state (Duke for instance). I could be wrong that coming from Texas might help(so please don’s shoot me) but a lot of my daughter’s friends are from Texas, Rice seems to be forging great relationships with Houston and surrounding areas, and again the fact that 43% were accepted seemed to say those applicants might have some edge. Just my observation coming from out of state.
