Very high chance. Show lots of interest and write some awesome essays, Good Luck! My son is going to Rice this year.

Thanks! Anyone else?

I would think you have a strong chance. Go for it.

You definitely have a decent shot at making it into rice and you should try it out. You don’t by any chance have legacy at Rice? That really helps at Rice.

Thank you! Does applying ED give that much of an advantage when applying? Rice is my first choice but I don’t want to commit to a school before knowing how much I would have to pay. Is it better to just apply RD or would my chances of getting in drop significantly?

I heard ED helps compared to RD. But yeah, same with you, I’m uncertain about it because it’s basically a contract in which you don’t know about the financial terms. I did however hear that Rice does give out quite some money because it is private.

Btw you should chance me too: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/1787954-chances-for-ed-ill-chance-back.html#latest

Your test scores and grades are very solid, same with your ECs. I think your chance of admission is pretty high. Regarding your concern with ED - last year Rice’s ED admissions rate was 20% v. RD 15%, which isn’t as significant as some schools but still a statistical advantage. If you’re not completely sure about financial aid, I would say maybe apply EA somewhere and then apply to Rice RD so you get a chance to assess all your finaid offers.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/1791066-chances-for-ed-will-chance-back-thanks-in-advance.html?new=1

solid chance at getting in! it’s risky to apply ED if you really are counting on need-based aid. the admission rate is higher but it’s important to note that this might be because ED applicants tend to be more competitive students. of the kids who do apply for need-based aid, something like 67% end up receiving aid.

so just weigh your options and see what you think is best. good luck!

Pretty average for Rice, but having said that you are in the average to be admitted. So it wouldn’t hurt to gamble and apply. Good luck!

@elee21 @theodorecruz Definitely definitely DEFINITELY don’t apply anywhere ED if you aren’t 100% willing to go with no scholarship. It’s as simple as that! Otherwise you’re betting money you don’t have just for an unconfirmed “advantage”.

@jfking01 yeah I actually recently just decided to not apply ED to Rice, due to exactly what you stated: the risk of going to a private university without scholarship. Thanks though, I will be applying RD.
