Chances for EDII at Emory CAS

I applied to Emory initially as a Questbridge finalist and was not matched. So, I'm applying EDII. Chance me?

Ethnicity/gender: White female
Income Bracket: parents divorced, primary household income <25k (which I suppose is conveyed through the QB application)
High School: large competitive public school that opened in 2008; I'll be in the first class to go all 4 years.
Intended Major: Neuroscience and Behavorial Biology
Showing Interest: I email them probably more than they like haha, and I have visited the school.

1) GPA as of the end of junior year:
UW - 3.96
W - 4.26
Because I have no urge to type all of my classes and grades out,

This semester I look AP Language (99), Honors Bio 2 (96), AP Euro (95), and Gov/Econ (98, 98). Euro's a yearlong class, so they won't add the 5 points for an AP class until May. boo. It's technically a 100.
Next semester, I'm taking AP Euro, AP Biology, AP Human Geo, AP Stats, and a Biological Anthropology duel enrollment class at the local community college.

2) Rank: 25/543, the last time I was told. The school technically does deciles, though.

3) 8 AP classes when I graduate - 3 Junior year, 5 Senior year.
(Lit, Calc AB, Calc BC, Lang, Bio, Euro, Human Geo, Stats)

4) ACT: 32 comp both times.
first time - Eng:35, Math:31, Sci:28, Reading:32.
second time - Eng:34, Math:29, Sci:32, Reading:34.

5) Volunteering/Jobs
-Mission trip to Bronx '09
-Mission trip to Boston '10
-Salvation Army every week
-Math and biology tutor
-Babysitting weekly for my church and 1-3 times a week for an ER nurse overnight.

5) ECs and random things:
-Disclaimer: I'm responsible for taking and picking up 3 other kids (1 is a sibling) from school because there's no bus, as we transferred to this school, and they have no other way home, so it hinders my chances to do a lot of ECs. and yes, I did get to explain this to them on my QB application.
-Two Duke TIP summer studies (one for Art and Architecture, the other for Clinical Psychology)
-I attend monthly lectures at the University of Tennessee's Medical Center, shadow doctors overnight several times a semester, and will have a 6-week paid internship at the hospital this summer.
-Questbridge College Prep Scholar, attended the Yale conference, QB finalist.
-TSA (Technology Student Association); 16-time trophy winner, including 5 at Nationals.
-National Honor Society
-Mu Alpha Theta (math club)
-Science Club
-STEM Girls Sorority (too weird to explain lol)
-first ever Student of the Month (HEY, I AM PROUD.)
-Awards for all A's, minus one semester... stupid Calculus.

You didn’t give your junior year AP scores. Other than that, I think everything matches up for you.

I got a 4 in Lit, 4 in AB, and 3 in BC. Not great, but I was really proud because I struggled a lottt with Calculus (my only B). and a 4 in Lit after 5 months of not having the class can’t look too awful, I guess. I wonder if they consider things like that.

Another question: I sucked up the SAT, but when registering I chose to have the scores sent to Emory. Too bad that it’s too late to cancel it once you find out your scores… hmph. anyways, even though they have both, will they only look at my ACT since it’s much better?

Your AP scores of 4 are fine. The 3 is an issue since you are presenting yourself as a science prospect.

I think the admissions staff is pretty generous about selecting the most favorable test scores.

I don’t know whether admissions will automatically see your QB app. If it’s important, I would alert admissions to it.

I’m not sure what you mean by the last part. Since I was a finalist but not a match, I chose to have it forwarded to them as my formal application. I emailed the admissions people and they said not to send the Common App since they had my QB application.

“I emailed the admissions people and they said not to send the Common App since they had my QB application.”

Then they definitely have your QB application!

Good luck.

Good chance of admission. Don’t worry about AP scores, Emory only uses them for placement, not admissions.
