Chances for Emory, Tulane, Amherst, UVA, JHU, Cornell, NU, Rice, Uchicago?

I already have some lower-cost safeties lined up, but I’m not sure where I stand for the rest of my schools. I’ll probably shorten my list at some point, but here’s what I have right now:

Emory
Tulane
Amherst
University of Virginia
Johns Hopkins
Northwestern
University of Chicago
Cornell

Stats:

Rank: top 24% ish (large, competitive public school–i realize my rank is sub par)

Going to take ACT next week; i go a 34 on my practice test yesterday so im anticipating a good score

thank you for any help you can give, and link me to your thread if you want me to chance back.

Everything seems in range; however, you don’t have anything particularly strong that immediately warrants an acceptance from the tops (in this case JHU Cornell Northwestern Chicago). In this case, I’d suggest ED for one of the tops, otherwise you’re just a strong candidate in a large pool trying to stick out… Not saying you wouldn’t get in, in fact you have a good chance of getting into at least one of your top schools! If anything, make a meaningful, unique essay and reach out to these schools and demonstrate your passion and interest in their curriculums and programs.

ok, thank you for your feedback! im going to stick with rice ED since it’s my top choice. i will work hard on my essays, though.

If you can get a 34 on the ACT with the ECs you have I think you should definitely be competitive. For the schools cornell and uchicago you are competitive but almost no one seems guaranteed the chance of acceptance. Good luck!

thank you!

You will not get into UVA out of state with a top 24% class rank and that GPA. Rice is also a long shot. In fact, the only sure thing on your list is Tulane. You’re likely to get into Emory as well, but no guarantee. I do not see the chances of any of the other schools accepting you to even be 50/50.

Keep Rice as your ED and come December your college worries will be over
