Chances for emory , Unc chapel hill, and Duke

I am Currently a Junior (African American male) at a competitive School with a relatively large class in a competitive school.(about 560) Out of 560 i am ranked 60 in my class. (Top 12 Percentile). I have taken all honors and Ap courses since the ninth grade. I take the Act next week however my estimated Act score was a 26-28.Sat-At least an 1800 unweighted-3.5 i think. Weighted 4.3 i currently dont know my uw but the last time i checked it was a 3.5-3.6. Instruments-Timpani,snare,Mallets,auxiliary.(basically all percussion instruments). I do hold a leadership position in the band however i am looking to add more. I am currently in the marching band(One of the best in the state),Spanish club, Beta Club,Academic team, church youth group, did karate (Tang su do, which i excelled in and even won 3 first place fighting competitions)and plan to volunteer at the soup kitchen. I am also in a percussion ensemble, and i my classes are of the hardest rigor available at my school. Chance Me please(I chance back). Thanks

What state do you live in? Changes your chances for UNC

South Carolina!

Ah…well, OOS, I don’t think you’ve got a great shot at UNC (but OOS, who DOES?). You might get in with some great essays (or a very original “most underrated superhero”), but it’s FAR from a sure thing. Same for Duke. Duke’s been making its way up the rankings and it’s harder and harder to get into. If you can manage to pull yourself up into the top 10% of your class though, that will help you tremendously.
As for Emory, you have a shot, especially if you apply to Oxford College (Emory College might be a bit competitive for you).
