Chances for engineering at Rice?

<p>Hello, I am currently a Senior awaiting college decisions. I was hoping some of you CC'ers could chance me perhaps. I would really appreciate it</p>

<p>Objective Stats:
GPA: 3.8ish UW/4.3ish W, Top 2% of my class of around 1300+
SAT: 2100+
SAT II: 700+ on Chem and Math II, 650 on World Hist
Course Rigor: Have taken a rigorous schedule (12 APs and 4 IB's total)
Location: TX
Gender: M
Race: Asian (specifically Pakistan)
High School: Public with 1300+ students in my class</p>

<p>Extracirriculars:
-UIL Academics (9,10,11,12) (Team Captain for 2 years)
-Business Professionals of America (10,11,12)
-National Honor Society (10,11,12)
-National Spanish Honor Society (10,11,12)
-Eagle Depot (10,11,12)
-Academic Decathlon (11,12) (Team Captain this year)
-Interact Club (11,12)
-Key Club (10,11,12)
-Volunteer at the North Texas Food Bank for 3 years
-Volunteer Coordinator/Head Volunteer at local mosque for 5 years
-Volunteering at the local library
-Volunteering at local hospital for the summers
-I work at a clinic
-Researcher at UTD (University of Texas at Dallas)
-Have been doing research that has been praised by many professors dealing with biomechanics</p>

<p>My Rec letters and Essays were strong</p>

<p>Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering</p>

<p>Senior Year Courses: 6 AP's 1 IB</p>

<p>Interview went well</p>

<p>I have also won various awards from UIL, Academic Decathlon, BPA, and volunteering as well.</p>

<p>My rank and GPA have both gone up since Freshman year, I really appreciate you taking the time and reading my post.</p>

<p>You look like you have a really good shot. What is your SAT breakdown?</p>

<p>@Aerobug, SAT I: 630 CR, 780 M, 720 W with 11 on the Essay</p>

<p>So your CR is a little low but your Math is very strong. Your combined score is 1410, which is about average. I don’t think your SAT will keep you out of Rice, but it won’t help you, either.</p>

<p>Holistically, however, you seem to be very well-rounded, so I’d say you have a decent shot. At this point it’s all up in the air.</p>

<p>You’ve done what you can do, now it’s up to Rice (and the other schools you applied to).</p>

<p>You have a decent shot, but I’m not sure you’ll get in. A GPA of “only” 3.8, an SAT of “only” 2100, and being Asian very well might tip you onto the reject list. Hope for the best but don’t expect it.</p>

<p>@Emberjed: The 3.8 is my Unweighted GPA on the 4.0 Scale my Weighted GPA is a 4.3ish on a 5.0 scale and my SAT is higher than 2100 but I see what you mean. Hopefully I’ll get in haha.</p>
