Hi,I am an international student. My intended major is Electrical and computer engineering.

SAT - CR 540,Math 760,Writing 630
I'm retaking in november,expecting something between 2000 and 2050.
SAT subject tests - Math level 2 800,Physics 750
TOEFL(not sure if required) - 113(IBT)

I'm in the top 10% of my class.
Expecting very good letters of recommendation.
Quite a few extracurriculars and awards.

The middle 50% of engineering students admitted last year were in the top 8% to the top 2% of their classes, and had ACT scores in the range of 30-33. As it stands now your ACT equivalent of 28 (sat 1930) does not put you into that range, so you would have to be classified as a slight reach/reach.

Letters of recommendation are not considered and will not be accepted for admissions evaluation.

You need toefl with current CR score which has to be at least 550 to avoid submitting toefl but toefl score is OK (needs to be at least 100 for engineering if you do not qualify through CR score).

SAT score is currently on the low end of the middle 50% range (for SAT it was 1920-2160 last year) but for engineering math is the more important; nevertheless if you can raise other sections by retake do so. You have decent chance with what you have but raising will help.

Recs and SAT IIs are not used for admission.

Oh that’s news;I was banking on my SAT 2 scores and letters of recommendation.I’m pretty sure i’ll be able to cross 550 on my second try. What do you think my chances would be with a score of 2050?

Your chances would improve of course, but speculating on admissions based on potential future scores is not very beneficial. Drusba has specified that the middle 50% of applicants admitted last year had SATs in the 1920-2160 range, and a score of 2050 would be right in the middle of that range, but your current Math subscore of 760, if you can maintain, or improve that would be looked upon favorably.

You say you’re in the top 10% of your class. Is that 10% just a ballpark figure on your part, or did you mean it to be an exact representation of what your class rank is?

But if I send my SAT II scores, won’t it atleast have a slight influence or is it just not possible to send my subject test scores.10% is a ballpark figure;I still need to get the exact number from my school.

^Admission is determined by the personnel in each college. They review a computer file prepared by the admissions office on you. The admissions office does not put SAT II scores or any rec letters into that computer file, so those who determine admission will not even know you submitted them.

Wow, thanks for this info, drusba. I honestly thought sending SAT II to UIUC was good idea, didn’t know the info was omitted from the decision makers eyes.
