I'm currently applying for Exeter, Andover, and Iterlochen for sure. I am in 8th grade applying for 9th.I know that Exeter and Andover are however extremly selective. I know Interlochen has a higher acceptance rate though and it is an arts school. I go to a public school currently and my grades are (We can get A+'s):
Alegbra 1(9th grade course)-A
Social Studies- A+
ELA- A+
Living Enviroment- A+
Italian (9th Grade Level)- A+
PE- A+
Art- A+
Band-A+
Orchestra- A+
Morning Orchestra (This extra thing at my school)- A+
Enrichment 1 & 2- Pass ( You either pass or fail
My grade rarely change and normally stay like that give or take a few points. I also participate in many activities. I do these not just because they are good for applications becuase I do truly enjoy them. I am a captian on my school's Academic Challenge Team, I'm on the swim, ski, and track teams. We unfortuantly do not have any student government. I play flute at a NYSMA Level 6(The highest you can play at), I play piccolo and cello, and somewhat bass. I also am part of 2 selective musical groups though my school. I've started taking private music lessons. I've recieved numerous awards. A few are the President's Gold Award, 2 Band warads, 2 orchestra awards, an art award, an award from district, are among the few I can recall now. I more interestested in Exeter and Andoer than Interlochen since there more academic schools even though I love music. I also do participate in music porgrams outside of school and volunteer because I feel it's important to give back to our community. That's pretty much it. Oh, and about sports, I am a top triple jumper at my school, and I just ski mostly recreationally though I'm thinking about racing soon, and I am the fastest swimmer on my swim team. I do go to a public school which could be seen as a bad thing. I'm good at interviews too. I know I havn't listed much but that's all I can really think of. Sorry about any grammer/spelling errors and for jumping around alot idea wise. I am really pationate about what do and I want to get a good education and learn. So what do you think my chances might be?

Well, Grades become a smaller factor to the AO’s because most if not all of the applicants have Your EC’s seem Great, but AO’s not only like to see passion for one sport or intrument but individuals who are “explorers”. Even If You do play the flute so well, if there are a handful of other applicants that play the flute as well, then You have less of a chance. I believe that You have an above-average chance if You score well on the SSAT and get Great Recommendation and write outstanding Essays. Can You chance me too? You might get an idea of what other applicants look like as well! You can do this by clicking on my name (profile) and going to statistics I think. Good luck to You!

Man, this is too funny. I live in Exeter but go to the public high school. All my friends at PEA told me that it was so great and stuff but I never really believed them…now on CC I see everyone’s obsessed with it. Honestly, middle school grades are worthless because it’s so easy to get As. As long as you have As you have a chance, but your ECs look real good. I’d say you have a decent chance. Now, don’t get discouraged when I say this but…you sound like every other person who attends PEA. Just another preppy kid who doesn’t look both ways when he/she crosses the crosswalk with their instrument in their hands (just kidding, I can’t judge you, but there’s a lot of kids who do that). My best friend’s mom works at PEA, and five of my friends graduated from there last year (i’m smarter than two of them but im stuck here at EHS). Make sure you stick out from the crowd if you get interviewed…don’t sound snobby, or they’ll reject you. I’ve partied on campus so many times and I’ve met too many snobby kids. Just FYI, and good luck

I don’t really think I’m a snob. Yeah, I’ll admit I dress preppy. Just out of curiosity what do they wear there? But anyway I’m really just an over-acheiver who wants a great education. I enjoy what I do (music and sports) and I just want to pursue it and I think boarding school would allow me to do that, you know? Is there anything that would really make me stand out admission wise?

No no I feel ya. Haha I do not judge people unless they really stand out (in a bad way). It’s just that I’ve met too many kids who go to PEA who think they own the town of Exeter because their parents paid for tuition. I’m serious: most of them NEVER look both ways at the crosswalks, they think that cars will just stop for them. Thankfully none of my friends were like that.
As for the dress code, the guys wear shirts with khakis or a similar outfit (Idk if it’s necessary, but that’s how my best friend dressed every day). The girls have a bit more leniency and wear dresses and sometimes pants. I used to date a girl from PEA and she wore dresses all the time.
And here’s the thing about standing out…you want to seem like a different kind of applicant for the Admissions Officers, but the school is pretty homogenous (preppy). It’s confusing: you have to stand out for the AOs (Admissions Officers), but once you get in it’s as if you can act like everyone else. If you’re kind of a spontaneous kid, don’t be afraid to show that off for the AO’s; there are plenty of crazy kids at PEA.
Good luck, I have no idea when applications for boarding school are due, but let us know the verdict. Make sure you wait for cars to stop at the crosswalk, and I probably won’t hit you on my vacations back from college haha

I look when I cross the street believe me I kinda like to live, just a bit What could I do to stand out? Like by the way I act? Or is there something I could also start doing now to stand out?

“Is there something I could also start doing now to stand out?”
First and foremost, be yourself. Don’t change the way you are to stand out. Just make yourself interesting. I have no other ideas as to how to stand out, though…that’s something you’ll have to think of by yourself. Good luck!

Yeah. I was talking about any activities. Then again I probably wouldn’t even be happy about it, therefore I doubt it would matter. Haha. Thanks :)
