Michigan does not ask or consider Freshmen grades, so your "Michigan GPA" is close to 4.0. You have taken a challenging course load and done well on AP exams. Your ACT is right around the Michigan mean though. I think Michigan is a safe match for you.

It looks like a match to me. If the practice tests indicate that a higher ACT is in the cards, go ahead and take it.

Oh yes, and apply early; as in, you can be working on the application now so you can push the button 9/1. Don't wait for the new ACT scores. If you decided to take it again, just send it in as soon as you get the scores - if necessary.

Should we make an effort to visit UM sooner rather than later? (We may not have the opportunity to get to Michigan before the application goes in.) How much do AdComs consider these visits, especially from OOS students? Should we make it a priority to do a campus visit this summer/early fall?

They do keep names in their databases of people who have visited. I was wondering whether it gives an applicant any sort of advantage in terms of clear interest in the school.

I am sorry, I really don't know whether they track demonstrated interest. However, it never hurts to visit so that you could reference your impressions in writing when you submit your application. It particularly helps in the "why Michigan" essay.

SB dad- What 'why michigan' essay? I have the 2008 app. questions, and I didn't see that listed as one. Also, I don't think that with tens of thousands of applicants they really care who visited.

Sorry, didn't know that they had done away with that essay this year.

Also, I agree that they don't track visits (demonstrated interest), but I thought it might be helpful to have been to the campus to answer the "why mich" essay, but if there is no such essay, then I don't see any impact visiting would have the the admissions decision itself.
