what is the GPA weighted? If it's 4.0+ I'd say you are a match, maybe boarderline reach for UF/Miami, and a safety at FSU. If it's around a 3.5 because you didn't take the AP/honors classes I'd put UF and Miami as reaches and FSU as maybe a match.

If he has the IB certificate he should be in FSU or UF. Not sure about UMiami, which is private. Retake the SAT - both UF or FSU will use the best combination of scores.

they're less selective then UF. with those scores, i would say you're in at FSU, possibly in at miami, and not in at UF, which got a lot more selective this year.

I agree with cats1127. I know many kids with similar stats to OP. None got into UF with that SAT score unless they were a recruited athlete(even with the IB). Get the SAT up to above 1260 (M + CR) and you have a chance at UF. I don't know that ED is an effective strategy for UF...they seemed to show NO preference this year. My girlfriends daughter was deferred from UF on ED with a 3.7 GPA and 1150 SAT. She was deferred again on reg. decision 1 and rejected at regular decision 2. She is happily attending FSU this summer. FSU is a match if you apply early (one of my friends sons got rejected with 3.8 GPA and 1100 SAT...he applied just before the January deadline). Most kids that I know got into U of Miami this year...both high achievers and very average students too. Rule number one with Florida schools: APPLY AS EARLY AS YOU ARE PERMITTED.

Uf has become to picky. Uf used to accept anyone who went for the full ib diploma, they were known as the school with the most ib students in the country, but now ever since they hired that new president, they lowered they're standards and no longer accept alot of ib students.

so in terms of the OP, Being an ib student might hurt you. at my school which is an ib/ regular high school no one from the ib program got accepted and the people from the regular program did.

anyways your a lock at fsu, fsu has now taken up the slack in accepting ib students just to spite uf.

Get into FSU while you can. They are at a bit of an ebb here, with FTIC applicants stats lower now than usual due to the US News undergrad rating hit they took when they hired Wetherell.

I seriously doubt this will last. As an alumnus I can guarantee it will be questioned.

I'm surprised everyone's saying UF is so selective this year, alot of the people I know who are going there are not people I would consider overly bright, although I can't say that I know their stats off the top of my head. At the same time though, I know a couple people I would consider fairly intelligent who got rejected, but I always assumed it was because they're slackers who lacked GPA.

I think that's an interesting point. It appears that those who can craft their circumstances to fit the desired form du jour the school wants get in. There are those who are extremely bright who opt not to conform...and thus are non-selected. Some call this 'gaming the system', but that's really not quite accurate.

From what I've seen, in general, girls are much more likely to conform and thus produce the desired circumstances. UF as a result has become a 'girls school', which is a change from the past, and their admission stats have increased. When I attended FSU we had more girls than boys, and UF was the opposite. It has now virtually equalized in terms of the quantity of the sexes.

Yeah, but i'd be willing to bet you're in state. I'm in PA, with a father who attended UF for Law school, and I still couldnt get in.
