Your chances are good if you only look at your stats. But the DHS is more than stats, and creativity with the “box project” is important. You don’t have to be super creative, don’t obsess, but just doing an essay sounds like giving up without really trying. A large majority of the winners this year were science types (in fact my D was the only declared liberal arts major, so Dean Haber made a point of introducing herself), and some of their projects were very clever. Let your mind relax, be observant to things around you every day and try and relate them to your goal here. Something will come to you.

Impressive high school career btw, congrats.

FC, are you saying that your daughter was a Dean’s Honors Scholarship recipient?

Oh, my goodness. You must be so proud!

Congratulations!

Yes, she was. I thought you knew that already since I am very bad about not bragging about it, lol. Yes, I was indeed very pleased and proud, and the financial benefit was clearly pretty awesome too. They do a really nice breakfast for the DHS winners the Sunday of Move-in weekend, and it was really great. These kids are nothing short of phenomenal. There was one student that was a 3rd(!) generation DHS winner, and another that was a Presidential Award winner, of which there are only about 150 in the entire country. My D was nominated and made it past one stage of that award, but then was “cut”, which is absolutely no shame since that still is like the top 500 or something like that. There are only 2 final winners (one of each gender) from each state and a handful of others (US citizens abroad, some artsy types, etc.) So winning is extremely impressive. Anyway, for Tulane to have one of those 150 is quite a coup, since clearly those students could probably go to any school.

I have to agree with fallenchemist… your record already has made you an attractive candidate for Tulane. Put some thought into your project rather than using an essay. If your essay lends itself to a storyboard or other media then you can certainly use it as a starting point but I would suggest doing more than an essay.

Good Luck and it’s well worth the extra effort if you get the scholarship
!!

Sorry, Fallenchemist, as I usually just pop into the Tulane forum when it appears as a latest post.

We’re working on our Personal Application right now. I’m bringing the paperwork to the counselor tomorrow. And I’ve just sent son’s SAT scores in.

Oh, and we’ll be going to Preview Day next Saturday.

Wish us luck!

Absolutely, the best of luck!!
