Chances for GA Tech?

First off, thanks for taking the time to chance me. I really, REALLY appreciate it and WILL chance back anyone and everyone who asks for it. Thanks!

The following is my "situation" at each school. The rest is my info.

Georgia State - in state, no ties
UGA - in state, no ties
Georgia Tech - in state (Legacy - Brother currently attends)
Alabama - out of state, no ties

White Caucasian Male
~3.83 College Recalculated GPA
9 Honors Classes (9th Lit, 10th Lit, Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, Geometry, Spanish 2, Spanish 3, Spanish 4)
7 AP Classes (Lang, Comp Sci A, Macro, Micro, Lit, Calc AB, Human Geo)

Side Note: Freshman year was fantastic academically, rough patch sophomore year which messed up my GPA due to two deaths in the family. Junior year best year academically.

Senior Schedule (4 APs):

AP Micro/AP Macro
AP Calc AB
AP Literature
PE (required)
Physics
Film

7 APs at end of high school (Lang, Comp Sci A, Macro, Micro, Lit, Calc AB) Self studying Human Geography

1900 SAT (620 CR, 620 M, 660 W)
Taking the ACT in September, I have been getting 28-31 on practice tests so expecting to be in that range.

I have leadership positions in 2-4 clubs, and do a good amount of volunteer work with my church, school, and library. I am a good writer, and am confident I can write great essays and have already started. Planning on applying EA to all four of the schools listed above.

Feel free to let me know my chances. I'll chance back as well!

Thanks!

The only one I know anything about would be GA Tech. You have a good not great chance of getting in. Ur gpa is ok but in the 25% and ur SAT score is 100 points off of being in the 25% in the bad way. Don’t want to be mean. That being said u should be able to get in due to ecs mainly the leadership and good academic record. Make sure ur guidance counselor puts in the thing about te deaths and you will be good on gpa so yeah good shot

Also u should be able to easily pass that ap human geography test Bcuz I didn’t do any if the work and only studied for one week granted some hard core studying and got a 4

If your act scores do end up in the 28-31 range, I think you`re good. Georgia tech is going to be on the common app next year, which might possibly mean higher selectivity. So better get working on those essays! Really show how your passions have developed “you” and you have a good shot of getting in. :)

You should get into Alabama and get a merit scholarship. You have a good chance at UGA.
However GT is getting harder to get into so the higher your ACT score the better your chances are. I’m not sure how you recalculated your GPA but GT is no longer recalculating GPA’s.

Yeah GAtech said they are calculating GPA’s they way your highschool(s) calculated GPA. And I think most schools in the country just give 1 point to AP class. I also know some schools that gave .5 points to honors classes. So, how are they going to distinguish you… class rank OFC. They say class rank isn’t a factor, but I don’t see how they can compare you fairly without using class rank… Johnny goes to a HS that weights honors and AP classes, his GPA is 4.3, but Jimmy goes to HS that weights only AP classes, he got 4.2. Yet they all got straight A’s throughout their HS career…

My GPA is recalculated based off of the grades on my transcript and their weightings; I know for sure that 3.83 is my GSU and UGA GPA, but admittedly im not sure what my Georgia tech and Alabama GPA is.

Thank you all for your help! I agree that I’m probably a 50/50 for admission, more likely to not be accepted but it is what it is. Feel free to chance or suggest any other schools I should take a look at; I want to major in business.

@dragooner4. The problem with using class rank is that at least at my sons school they base class rank on the percentage non-weighted GPA and it includes ALL classes you took. So Johnny with a 96% average who took got 100 in weightlifting class for four years plus he did not take any AP or gifted classes could have a higher class rank than Jimmy with a 95% average who took gifted & AP classes plus 4 years of a foreign language…
