Chances for Gallatin school

Hello I am a senior and I just ED2 to NYU
Here is a little bit about myself
I have a 88.7 GPA, I have had GPA in the 90’s but in junior year I was diagnosed with major depression but thankfully I recovered from that - my guidance counselor acknowledged that in the writing recommendation. I have took a total of 7 AP courses and 3 college prep courses I have always took honors courses and electives as well.
My senior grades are a huge improvement from last year tho
My SAT SCORE: 1250

Besides the numbers, my extra curricular are
Volunteered in a gynecology unit
Volunteered in a nursing home
Every summer I have a research internship where I work on a project and collect data. I usually take a huge role in this projects by managing and communicating with patients.
I do this little small program in where my dad works where I help non-native English speakers adults, understand the language more, its a program I created and a lot of people began to volunteer here.
Volunteer in a senior citizen home
Tutor refugee children and children from low income families math and English for free
Model United Nations
Speech and Debate Team

Clubs:
Asian Culture Club
Habitat for Humanity
African Culture Club
Medicine and Health Club
DIY club
Human Rights Club
I took leadership in two ways, I was president of a club that welcomed new students and a treasurer of the African culture club.Treasurer of Asian club.

I was also in National honor society (basic but Idk if it helps)
SUPPLEMENTS:
Talked about diversity my love for science and creating my major bc I am interested in a lot of things and how much I enjoy NYU lack of traditional campus

My essay was about an internship I had in a hospital in Nepal, which pushed me to become more interested in global health medicine.

My letter of recs:
9/10 English teacher who knows me really well, he wrote about how I write and what am I like outside of school
9/10 SS Teacher who also knows me really, he wrote about me in the class and outside of it

Please be honest you can even tell me I have 0 chance

My alternate choice was LSP

To be fair, I don’t think you have the highest chance.
This is due to two reasons, please do not take any of my comments to be personal.

First, your grades are not that high. I understand the hardships that you have managed to overcome, but admission officers might view you purely on a statistical level. Also, NYU ED2 is considerably harder

Second, your SAT is pretty low. 1250 is 40 points below the 25% quintile for NYU, and note that a lot of these students with lower SATs were admitted via legacy, URM, and many other hooks.

Overall, I like your activities, but your stats are low for NYU. I’d say you have a shot, but not a solid one.

Best of luck tho! and happy holidays!!!

Fyi @iwantcollegeplz I think NYU just updated the freshman profile, I just looked at it for another thread and 25th percentile SAT is now 1350 (75th is 1530]. ACT (30-34] & GPA [3.7uw) higher than before too.

I’d agree with the conclusion that the stats are a weak point. For Gallatin it’s apparently also critical that you describe how you plan to structure your study - not clear from what OP said if that was done or whether s(he just spoke about liking the ability to create a major.

@SJ2727 do you think I can get into LSP

I am also first generation

LSP doesn’t strike me as an obvious avenue if your essay spoke about science mainly? And the stats are still an issue. In my opinion, which is just the opinion of someone on the internet of course, you’ll need something very special in the application to offset the SAT score.

@SJ2727 what do you mean by “LSP doesn’t strike me as an obvious avenue if your essay spoke about science mainly”

Are you familiar with the LSP core curriculum? Like I said, to me it doesn’t seem like a natural fit for someone focusing on sciences, even though you can major in a science with the right electives choices. Of course I don’t know what your essay says and that would (from what I understand) be how they judge your fit with an alternate program. But again, I think a bigger issue is your SAT score being 100 points below the 25th percentile, and again I don’t know enough about your application to know if there is something standout to offset that.

Wow! Your extracurricular list is full! That by itself gives you a very high chance of getting admitted because it shows leadership which is something Gallatin school emphasizes on. Now in terms of stats I think that 7 AP classes and honor classes looks impressive. I’m not sure how your GPA scale works in your school but an 88.7 sounds pretty good! But either way I think the fact that you had depression and still managed to hold your life together will look impressive and highlight your determination. Admissions officers don’t only care about numbers! They also want to see strength and potential which you seem to have!
No matter what their decision is, you seem like a strong person that deserves the best! Good luck!
