I know my extracurriculars are not spectacular whatsoever but I do have a pretty decent hook. I immigrated to the United States from Russia when I was 8 years old. I had a pretty tough upbringing with my father dying when I was very young and my mom having to be a single mother and having to support her children on her own. I am a first generation college student as well.

My first choice is Georgetown because I am very passionate about the International Economics major and the School of Foreign Service in general. I am bilingual (Russian being the other language), I know the SFS likes to see its students being proficient in other languages.

I know I have as slim of a chance as anyone else at the top schools but I would like to hear your opinions on my choices, and if you have any ideas of other universities for me, they would be greatly appreciated! :)

Your SAT score is little low for those schools. Did you try ACT?

@lotusg It was my first time taking it with very minimal studying. I plan on retaking it in October and my practice tests have mostly been in the 2200s so far, so I’m hoping to get the score up at least 100 pts before college apps are due.

bumppp

anyone?

I’m basing this off of your current SAT score. I agree that you should retake, especially since this is your first try. 2200-2250 would be a good goal. Your extracurriculars are a bit boring so make up for it with other aspects of your character. They certainly aren’t horrible though.

Cornell (CALS-Applied Economics and Management) Low reach
Georgetown (SFS-International Economics) Low reach
WUSTL-Olin Low reach- Reach

Chance back?

I agree with what people are saying for math scores. Because you want to go for business/economics, that math score will be key so try to bump it up to at least a 700 (based off of your grades in math and SAT IIs, that shouldn’t be too hard). I’d say you have a very very good chance for the SUNYs. Your ECs aren’t stellar because they’re mostly academic based but I think that your hook is very unique. I agree with what lotusg said about ACT. It couldn’t hurt to try, especially because ACT tends to be more curriculum based and you have done very well in your classes throughout high school! Get those test scores up and I think you could have a decent shot at all of these schools! Best of luck!

Cornell, Georgetown, WUSTL: Medium Reach
