Work experience: I work several hours a week at my tae kwon do dojo at the front desk and also lead kids’ classes

Summer activities:
I took some required courses over the summer before and after freshmen year and didn’t do much else. Last summer I had an internship requiring 40+ hours per week campaigning for a congressman running for reelection in my area. 280 hours total. I also continued campaigning throughout the fall. This summer I have an internship with the same congressmen and also another internship on a Senatorial campaign. I will also be attending Girls’ State.

I’m interested in majoring in Political Science and International Relations. Chance me for the following schools? You don’t have to do all of them. Also, please feel free to recommend other schools that might be a good fit for me. Thank you so much!

Yale
Georgetown EA
Northwestern
Dartmouth
UPenn
Brown
George Washington
American

Great test scores, nice course rigor, maybe a bit higher gpa. This is the only place where you’ll hear a GPA of 3.8 will be considered a bit lower but you have to realize the applicant pools you’re going into. There will be hundreds and hundreds of applicants with better stats than you as it is. Just realize that these schools are highly competitive and that yours and any other applicants odds of getting in are slim to say the least with 9/10 applicants being rejected.
Having said that, I did enjoy reading your extra curriculars and think you have a good shot (take this into consideration with the acceptance rates). Please make sure that your essays have an impact and would truly catch an Admissions officer’s attention.
Yale: Reach
Georgetown EA: Low Reach (G is one of the few schools that accepts less applicants during EA than RD, and it looks like you’ll apply to SFS, the most competitive school)
Northwestern: Reach
Dartmouth: Reach
UPenn: Reach
Brown: Reach
I don’t know enough of the other schools to chance you.
What I want to stress by this is that these schools are all genuine reaches. You may have a better shot than other applicants but it’s still quite competitive. I’m not trying to demoralize you but am just being realistic. Just take a look at any of the results threads for any of the schools listed. I personally believe you very well may get into one of these but I’m not on the admissions committee for any of these schools and neither is anyone else who comments so our input is practically meaningless.
I think what will be the deciding factor for you will be the intangibles such as essays and letter of rec.
Best of luck! I really hope you do get into the school of your dreams!

You’re competitive pretty much anywhere. I’d be surprised if either American or GW rejected you. You’re within reach of any of the others.

If you live reasonably close to George Washington, be sure to visit and show them the love. The Naviance scattergrams from some of the strong nearby high schools in VA and Maryland show a remarkable pattern of very high stats applicants being waitlisted. I’d do the same for American.

“Love thy safety” needs to be expanded to “Show the Love to Thy Safety,” imo.

Northwestern, Dartmouth, and Yale are reaches if you don’t apply ED/EA but otherwise you’ll get into most of those schools. RD you might get lucky and get in one or two of the harder ones also. Your only real weakness is GPA with a slight downward trend considering last year you took 4 honors/APs and now your taking only 1 more harder class and have 4 Bs. Your overall GPA is still within boundary if all these schools but on the lower end for the tougher ones. If you apply to all of them though I think you’ll still be quite satisfied with the final result because your definitely get into one of them (and if Georgetowns your EA you’ll most likely get in).

Your SAT is below the line for all the schools except GW and American.

They all are pretty reachy: The GPA is the weak point, and the SAT is not compensating for it.

Your test scores and GPA are fine. You are clearly academically qualified and very involved. The only thing you can do now is write a really good essay.

You’re very well qualified. Please chance me.
All of your schools are reaches respectively, but considering how gifted you are you’ll get into one for sure.

There really isn’t any guarantee that you’ll get into the ivies since so many other applicants have similar if not better stats; of course you should consider them a reach. That being said, your extracurriculars are phenomenal  and so are your test grades. It really all comes down to luck, in my opinion. But look into some other schools closer to a 20% acceptance rate that are very similar to your choices already! Overall, doesn’t solely depend the hours or scores that define you; what matters is how you come across as passionate about what you do.
