Chances for Georgetown, Penn, etc.

SAT 1: Taking on May 3rd
SAT 2: Going to take Math 2, Chemistry, and something else (projected ~750+ in the listed ones)
ACT: 34 Composite (1 sitting; 36 in Math and English, 32 in Science and Reading); retaking in June (Science should go up, Math should stay the same, and I'm hoping to maintain a solid average on English and Reading)
GPA (unweighted): 4.0
Class Rank: 6/382 (top 1.6%)

AP Tests (scores): Computer Science A (5), World History (3); Taking this year: Chemistry, English Language, US History

Senior Course-load: AP Goverment/AP Microeconomics, AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP English IV, a class that lets us run nearly all aspects of a new school business (helped set up the class, weighted and is double-blocked)

Random: Got an independent study computer science course implemented at my school (not sure if I will put this, seeing as I don't want to go into computer science...but I guess it couldn't hurt?)

Extra Curriculars: Computer Science club (Vice-president/Co-founder; 2 years), NHS (2 years), Interact Club (volunteer program through local Rotary club), UIL: Number Sense, Computer Science, Social Studies, and Science (UIL is the Texas academic competition, only made it out of districts to region twice), Engineering Club, Self studying Mandarin, Korean, and Japanese?

Volunteer: About 50 hours as of now, plan on getting quite a lot more prior to applying through a local GoodWill-like store

Summer Activites: Received a full scholarship from the US State Department to study abroad in China for 6 weeks (over 100 hours of Mandarin classes over the course of this, and tons of cultural activities); my essays will use this experience a lot

I don't think that I have anything that will truly set me apart from other applicants, so I am primarily wondering if I am still somewhat qualified for the following universities (they are also ranked in the order I would like to attend each, if that makes sense):

Georgetown

University of Pennsylvania

Columbia

Cornell/Brown/Dartmouth (I don't really prefer any one over the other two)

American

I have safety schools in: University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M...any Texas public school (automatic acceptance to the college, specific programs there still might be a problem).

I am interested in studying International Relations or International Business (don't really know which I enjoy more at this point, so I'm entertaining both ideas).

Are there any good schools I could classify as safeties and matches with good programs in what I said above? I know pretty much my entire list is filled with reaches, so I'm looking for other schools that I can apply to (also, I want the schools to be in the northeast).

Also, is applying to Georgetown ED a reasonable choice? Or is it too out of reach to be worth it?

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm a white male going to a public school in Texas. My class size makes the school big, but this growth in students is outnumbering the growth in programs (can be a little annoying, as there isn't THAT much available at my school currently)

georgetown: high match
cornell brown dartmouth: low to mid reach
american match
columbia reach
penn: low reach

Cornell brown dartmouth - you have a very good shot at them all!
American - check mate you’re in
Columbia penn - both reaches but I think you’ll get in at least 1
Gtown - you’re in.

The only thing I would say is accentuate your ECs on the app. Make yourself look amazing with ECs cuz you have the grades for sure!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1643813-duke-ed-chances.html#latest

wouldn’t agree with the above poster. You have a decent shot but Gtown is not a safety for anyone and I would say low reach as you don’t have any obvious hooks but excellent stats. American also isn’t a safety unless you show LOTS of interest because they are notorious for rejecting high stats applicants who they think will go elsewhere.

I would apply to GW-you have a good shot at merit money there.
Emory is a top tier school that I think I would classify as a match rather than a reach for you, and they have one of the best business schools in the country, it’s not northeast, but it could be a great fit and still on the East coast.
Davidson could also be great for you, one of the top LACS in the country, as rigorous an academic courseload as any, truly great teaching, and I would say low reach for you. though again not northern.

Fordham in NYC has a great business school and would be a nice safety, with the internship opps you would get in the city.

Connecticut College is very strong in international relations and I would say is a match/low match for you.

also, Tufts in Boston - low reach/high match and very well known for IR.

Hope this helps!

also Georgetown doesn’t have ED, only EA, so go for it!

OP all of your choices except American shold be considered reaches. These schools are reaches for everyone

Your grades, ACT and course rigor are all good to excellent and have you within the range of accepted students. Your weakness is your ECs. Nothing stands out and makes you a compelling candidate. Since all of these schools are holistic, your essays and recommendation may well be the deciding factor. You have a chance at all of these schools, but realistically consider them reaches.

Please note that I am very familiar with G’Town and Penn. My wife and I both went to G’town and I used to be an alumni interviewer. My son goes to Penn/Wharton. Also FYI my daughter had slighty lower stats than yours (3.9 and 32 ACT) but much better ECs and was deferred EA by G’Town and rejected RD.

Don’t let any of this discourage you. Go for it and good luck

We sound fairly similar–same UW GPA, comparable test scores–and I was waitlisted at Penn RD, just for comparison. Good luck though–it’s all unpredictable, really. You’re clearly qualified!

Georgetown: high match
Cornell/Brown/Dartmouth: mid reach
Columbia: reach
UPenn: reach
American: safety
