Chances for Georgetown

I am not certain yet whether I will apply to the CAS or the SFS. I wish to major in international economics, but I do not want to end my liberal arts education either at this point.

I have a low GPA- 3.34 unweighted (health issues)

I got my SAT results back yesterday:

1540-2340 (800 CR, 740 Math, 800 writing, though I know they do not count this)
also 800 Math II C, 770 US History. Will take French and Chemistry in January.

I skipped a year in Math and French. Normally juniors at our high school only take one AP if they do at all, I took three:

exam results:

BC Calc 5 with 5 AB subscore
AP French 5
AP US History 5

National merit semifinalist, AP scholar.

This year's schedule

AP European History
AP Statistics
Discrete Mathematics at Boston University (college credit)
Seminar on Middle East that I helped organize- 4 highly motivated students, my headmaster (who will write me a letter of recommendation) and the head of the history department. At the end of the year we will publish our papers, I think I may submit my paper on Palestinian Economics to Georgetown as a supplemental material.
European Literature Honors (No AP at the high school)
Second Semester I will begin study of Turkish at Harvard Extension School
(I wish to learn Hebrew, Arabic and Turkish)

I have gotten all As this quarter at high school. I think same will be next quarter.

Extracurriculars:ballroom dance at competitive level is my most important activity. Also guitar lessons, ceramic classes with a local artist, and volunteer tutoring of mathematics for 7th graders.

Also, in addition to speaking French, I am fluent in Russian.

Well you got a bunch of extremes. It's tough to say, you got AWESOME SAT I and IIs and you got some really good foreign language experience. Russian is very impressive, and you obviously can speak French pretty well. On the other hand, the GPA is gonna hurt BIG TIME. What's your rank? What was the health issue? Are you still in the top 10%? 20%? If you're out of the top 20% its gonna be hard, obviously if you do well your first semester senior year it will help. Then, and no offence, your ECs are kinda weak. I mean I just don't know how impressed they will be with ballroom dancing, guitar class, and ceramic classes. If you get in it will be the SATs and the language experience. If you don't it will be the GPA/rank and ECs.

I certainly agree with Akajjred. If possible, I would write (or have someone... GC? maybe doctor?) write a short letter explaining about the absences, just so the Adcom is a little more clued in.

with everything else being so good, I doubt they will hold your gpa with health issues against you. however, having 3 instead of 1 ap isn't the most impressive thing that you have
