Chances for Georgia Tech and UGA?

First off, thanks for taking the time to chance me. I really, REALLY appreciate it and WILL chance back anyone and everyone who asks for it. Thanks!

White Caucasian Male
~3.83 GPA (core classes based on grades straight off the transcript)
9 Honors Classes in core subjects
5 AP Classes (Lang, Comp Sci A, Lit, Calc AB, Government)
Rank: 60/450 at high-ranked GA public high school sending many to UGA and Tech

Side Note: Freshman year and junior year were fantastic academically, rough patch sophomore year (mix of As and Bs in honors classes and one C one semester in honors chemistry) which messed up my GPA due to two deaths in the family. Lowest grade in high school other than that one C one semester were a couple low B's in honors math courses.

Senior Schedule (3 APs):

Economics (required)
AP Calc AB
AP Literature
AP Government - Comparative
Physics (required)
Contemporary Literature (considered a literary elective)

5 APs at end of high school (Lang, Comp Sci A, Lit, Calc AB. Government)

1900 SAT (620 CR, 620 M, 660 W)
29 Composite ACT (32 English, 31 Combined English/Writing, 29 Reading, 27 Math, 26 Science, 10 Essay)

I have leadership positions in 2-4 clubs, two year-round part time jobs, and do a good amount of volunteer work with my church, school, and library. Applied early action to both schools, but please chance both EA and RD. I understand that my chances for EA for both schools are probably slim.

My safeties are Georgia State and Alabama.

Thanks!

I would say match to Georgia and low reach for Georgia Tech. Please chance me back and also, as for why your grades dropped in sophomore year (two deaths), you should write about that in your essay or for the Common APP in the extra writing section, talk about it because colleges take that into consideration. At least that’s what my counselors told me lol

Definitely low reach for Georgia Tech

Chanced you guys, evening bump! Thanks guys!

Match for UGA
Low reach for Georgia Tech, but pretty sure you’ll make it.
Please chance me back

Thanks zaara! Chanced you back.

Bump!

BUMP! Will chance back ASAP! Thanks!

BUMP BUMP BUMP! Please chance!

Reach for Tech and Chance for UGA RD.

tech - sat 25th percentile was ~ 2020. But since you are a instate i would say u got pretty good chance.
I have a 2100 but indian education and american resident. I am trying too…:-(((

Thanks for the feedback guys! @UGA2014 so you’re saying I have NO chance at EA?

The three ACT scores they look at the most and my scores are below.

32 English
31 English/Writing
27 Math

Please chance me guys! I’m incredibly nervous.

The first thing they look at is GPA.
I have a 4.24 ACT 29 8 AP’s 3 honors and I’m 40 out of 527. I should make it but you never know?
I all depends on who is applying from your school too. I really want to go to Clemson and UGA and Cal Berkley are my second choices.

I’m not saying you have no chance but you never know? They looks at everything a blend together! I will be nice to finally know!!

My school has a triple digit number of acceptances (>100) to UGA each year, does that help me since I am in the top 60?

I think your SAT is what might pull you down. You’re just below the top 50th percentile for UGA, and much lower for Tech. Are you giving the SAT again?

UGA has this concept of guaranteed admission to the top two graduates from every SACS-accredited Georgia high school. If your high school is SACS-accredited, you might have a better chance. Also, 87% of UGA students are from in-state, so you have the statistical advantage.

It also depends on what you’re applying for. There are “more” and “less” competitive majors, all said and done.

1) UGA looks at your highest standardized test score, so when weighing my admission they will look at my 29 ACT (which is above the middle 50% and is the average score for a 2013 admitted freshman) with a focus on the English, English/Writing, and Math sections.

2) I thought UGA didn’t accept students by majors since most of the programs require a separate application to the school?

Thanks!

I’m assuming that you’re only sending in your ACT and not your SAT score then?

If your ACT is just above average, and your GPA seems to be too, then ECs, essays, recommendations, all that jazz is going to be your way in.

I do feel I should warn you however, that coming from a “high school sending many to UGA” is not a reliable factor. UGA took a poll of UGA admission myths (you can read it here: https://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/top-ten-uga-admissions-urban-legends.html</a> ) and as you can see, the first one is that UGA does not have a high school preference or quota.

Also, about the major, I wouldn’t know, because I am only half-way through my own application (yep, I’m applying too and my stats are very similar to yours).

It doesn’t matter what you major in! They don’t look at that at all. and EA they only look at GPA, Test Scores and Rigor. Your ACT and Rigor are fine just a little low on the GPA BUT UGA is weird and you never know what they are thinking. I’m 40 and they took 77 from my school last year. I know a lot of them were RD If you don’t get EA you should get RD!

Bump this up! Decisions come out in 2 days so please chance me! Will chance back immediately!

Bump! Decisions coming in 24 hours!
