I am currently a senior and have applied to Georgia Tech and UVA Engineering for early action. I have also applied Early Decision for Virginia Tech’s engineering program. I intended to apply to New York University and JMU for regular decision. Here is a little about me:

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT SCHOOLS ARE SAFETY SCHOOLS, REACH SCHOOLS, ETC. I really want to go to Virginia Tech for their Engineering program. Do I have a chance? Thanks!
You have a good chance at VT because you applied ED. Hopefully your essays really conveyed the message you want to be there. My guess is you will be deferred to the RD round for UVA and GT. They are both probably slight reaches just because it’s hard to say they are a match for anyone not in the top 10% of their class. JMU is a safety. NYU is probably a slight reach and for a Va resident will cost a lot more than your other in state options. Good Luck and Go Hokies!
^ I agree with the above. VT is unusual in that it accepts a lower percentage (about half) of ED applicants than it does RD applicants (more than half). So I suppose it’s possible you could get deferred there, if ED engineering is extremely competitive, but I really think you will likely get in early.
although you can never really say anything 100% about college admissions, i think you have a very high chance of getting into VT, especially with ED. in fact, im 95% sure you’ll get in. im a VA resident and from what ive seen most people i know around your stats have gotten in. go hokies!
It seems like you will easily get into VT and at that point the others don’t matter. GT And UVA would be the next two for engineering and they are more selective than VT. NYU and JMU don’t really fit with the others if you are looking at engineering programs.
Okay thank you for your input!! I do think Georgia Tech and UVA Engineering is really selective for engineering. However, my recommendations apparently are really good from what I know, as well as my Personal Statement. Do you think I have a chance in getting into the arts and sciences school for UVA?
If you are apply ED to VT, it doesn’t matter. Once you are accepted you will need to withdraw your application from UVA and GT. Why are you applying Arts & Sciences to UVA if you want to study engineering?
I want to do engineering. I applied to UVA’s engineering program as well, but there is a possibility I will get deferred - like you said. If I do not get into VT’s engineering program and get into Arts and Sciences program at UVA, I might consider going there. Therefore, is there a possibility of getting into UVA’s arts and sciences program?
Possible but UVA is a reach and be very careful because it is not easy to transfer into engineering from arts & sciences. You would basically be giving up on what you want to study.
I think you have a really good shot at VT engineering in the ED round. You have great ECs and if your essays are stellar that is probably your best bet.
