Chances for Georgia Tech with poor gpa

Hi, I am going to be a senior in high school next year and I wanted to know my chances of getting into georgia tech even though my gpa isnt great.

GTech GPA: 3.65

Sat: 2190 (retaking in june)

Ap classes already taken: AP Euro, AP US, AP Statistics, AP Language and Comp.
AP classes next year: AP Calculus AB, AP Physics, and AP Gov.

All the rest of my classes are honors

Im in Spanish National Honors Society and National Honors Society

Extracurriculars

High School Soccer (9-12) (Varsity (10-12)
High School Basketball/Lacrosse (only 9th)
FBLA (9-12)
Spanish Club (9-12)
100+ hours of community service
I also play the piano if that matters (not incredibly well but I get by)

I will be applying for aerospace engineering. What are my chances?

Are you from Georgia? That may make a difference. My son was wait listed with a 3.8 (uw, not sure about the GT GPA), 2100 SAT, excellent ecs. We’re out of state. (He wound up declining the wait-list offer, so I don’t know if he would have gotten in.)

No im out of state

3.8UW/4.3W (not in top 10%, but close) - 1480/2230 SAT, full IB Diploma; - EC’s outside of just clubs and some leadership; white male from northern Atlanta area - denied.

Just don’t get too emotionally attached to any school - they are still calling about why we didn’t renew our season football tickets. Are they kidding?

ThreeofThree is right. It’s hard to say exactly who is going to get in. My son did but his stats weren’t that much different than her sons. 1530/2150 SAT,800 SAT math II, 34 ACT, 8 AP’s 3.895 UW not sure what GT’s GPA was. EC’s- Marching Band and some other stuff, some leadership, white male southern Atlanta area accepted early action.

My advice. Write really good essays.

Thanks for the advice, anyone else?

Apply early and make sure you do really well your first semester senior year. If you get deferred, you can send your first semester senior grades on your deferred supplement. However, if you just apply RD, they won’t review your senior first semester grades. I think your GPA will hurt you since your SAT is just above average. They want out of state students to be better than in state students as well. However, if you show a good grade trend then you might have a shot. Also, like MichiganGeorgia said, do well on your essays.

Like dirtysocks said, with emphasis on making sure you do well on your essays and you really get your passion across. It’ll be the Common App next year, so you’ll have a different host of essay options.
