With that GPA, you won’t get into Tech. Sorry. Also, your CR score is in the bottom quartile. That would change if you are a recruited varsity athlete. It might not hurt to email the coach of the Tech team and let him or her know you’re interested in trying out for the team.

The OP’s Freshman Index is <3000 (using a 3.2 UW GPA), which is really poor for Georgia Tech and even low for UGA. Her SAT CR is in the bottom quartile, her GPA is in the bottom 1-2%, and her ECs don’t really offer a hook. She might get a GT Savannah offer, but I don’t think she’ll get into the Atlanta campus. But that’s just my opinion - maybe I’m wrong.

I believe they use the conversion provided by your school. So if your school identifies that 90-100 = A (or excellent or some other phrase that basically means an “A”), then a 90 is the same as a 99. That might not seem fair, but it’s the way 95% of high schools report grades and most colleges (including Georgia Tech) as well.

G.P.Burdell: I just submited my application. Do you know GIT will provide an application tracker system which may provide the GPA and SAT (GT re-calculate) information? or Freshman Index ?

Are you concerned with how they’ll convert your GPA? You might want to contact the admissions office and ask that question, especially if you think it might be converted incorrectly.

You should know your SAT score and once you have the unweighted GPA from Tech, you can calculate your Freshman Index.

W GPA = weighted grade point average. This is not what we discuss when we discuss GPAs.

UW GPA = unweighted grade point average. This is what we discuss. By definition UW GPA < W GPA.

So a 4.0 W GPA is generally not good (it depends on the school, but in most schools, that’s not an outstanding GPA). A 4.0 UW GPA is excellent.

A 1200 SAT + 4.0 W GPA will not get you into Tech. A 1200 SAT + 4.0 UW may or may not get you into Tech. A 1350 SAT + 3.7 UW GPA will probably get you into Tech.

I assume that’s something like a 750 Math / 720 CR. If so, then your friend is in the upper quartile on both SAT scores, despite the low GPA, and has a very good chance at admission RD.

I don’t follow your question. They consider your raw grades, not your weighted grades.

Quote:
See note above - Friend has 1470 SAT and 3.6 UW GPA. Is a 3.7 vs. a 3.6 enough of a gap not to overcome 1350 vs. 1470?
