Chances for getting in? please help!

Hey!
I'd love to hear people's opinions of my chances for gaining admission. Please be honest, I can handle it!

Female from one of the top private schools in North Carolina.
3.78 GPA (unweighted) top 25% of class
SAT scores: 1960 m: 650 cr: 640 w: 670

EC's:
3 years of Varsity Field Hockey
2 years of Varsity Soccer
2 years of Varsity Lacrosse
4 years of Club Field Hockey
Student Ambassador (gives tours to prospective students and parents)
Student Council Representative
Girl Scout for 12 years with Bronze, Silver and Gold Award (highest awards in Girl Scouting)
I do alot of community service through Girl Scouts and my church.

1 AP course Junior Year- 4 on the AP Exam
3 AP's Senior Year (Bio, Psych, Statistics)

I'm also teaching a class of high school freshmen as part of a program at my school. This is very time consuming and it requires making lesson plans for class every day.

Thanks so much!

SAT = :frowning:
OOS = :frowning:
AP = :frowning:
GPA = :confused:
Gender = :slight_smile:
ECs = :)

Average = a low :/

Gender? As far as I know, UVA admissions do not take gender into consideration.

Female is always a plus.

You have good ECs and a pretty stable GPA. But, you should consider taking the SAT again (November?). Also, work on your essays. How are your SAT subject scores? Best of luck; you have good chances!!

It is absolutely not true that female is always a plus. In fact, at many schools the opposite is true. The only exception is for engineering schools.

Here’s one of many articles on the subject:

[The Quiet Preference for Men in Admissions](http://www.mindingthecampus.com/originals/2010/06/the_quiet_preference_for_men_i.html)

Your class rank percentile is low. UVA will be a reach.

thank you everyone.
i realize that it is a stretch but I’d love to go there.

my SAT 2’s weren’t that good.
US History: 660
French: 650

do you think that they are worth sending?

and i do plan to take the SAT and the ACT in the next month or so

stocker93: does it make a difference that my class is only 80 people?
and we don’t rank. we just know if we are in the top 25% or not.

Your SAT II’s are… relatviely bad. :[

Strike two against Euroazn, who clearly knows very little about college admissions – or at least U-Va admissions. There’s nothing wrong with your SAT IIs. Will they turn any heads at U-Va? No, probably not? Will they hurt you? Absolutely not.

if you dont know your exact rank just that you’re in the top 25% or possibly better than that wont hurt you

You should have taken more APs. Even instate, my fellow classmate that got REJECTED from UVA had:
3 AP Junior year/5 Senior year, all passed with 4 and 5
a whopping 1580/1600 SAT
4.6 W gpa
some EC.

Your ECs are good. Ranking could be better. SAT is not competitive enough for OOS. Heck, its not even competitive for in state (I’ve got the same issue). Its gonna be a stretch for you as it is right now.

@novaparent “strike two”??? Did you read my post? Ok. Nod your head.
Now where did I say they would hurt the applicant?
Oh.
Interesting.
But they are relatively bad - that is, they are CERTAINLY not higher than average and therefore are not worth sending if there is an alternative.

Now, I won’t be ****ed if you just disagreed, but your comments such as “who clearly knows very little about college admissions” are just downright disrespectful. You’re just “a random mom”, yet I don’t go and ahead and attack you personally! >:|

You say you’d “love to go there.” Then for pity’s sake apply and see what happens. Can’t wait until April to find out? Too bad 'cause nobody’s “in” till then no matter what their scores are. Every deccent college has rejected a whiz kid or two with great scores and they’ve all admitted more than a few students with less than stellar numbers for some other reason. Will you be one of them? Only one way to find out and it’s not asking strangers for their random opinion online. Good luck and best wishes.
