Hi, I am currently a senior. I was wondering what my chances are to getting into BU? I go to a selective private school (might be important, explains my low GPA). I am also planning on applying Early Decision. I am applying to the school of Engineering for Biomedical Engineering. I am also Hispanic and coming from New Mexico.

Wentworth Institute of Tech
Worcester Polytechnic
CUNY City College
Columbia (giant reach)
and looking for 2-3 more

BU: match
Drexel: Match
Stony Brook: Match
Wentworth Institute of Tech: Low match
Worcester Polytechnic: Match
Columbia (giant reach): High reach.

BU:reach (they’re getting super strict with admissions)
Drexel: slight reach
Stony Brook: slight reach
Wentworth Institute of Tech: match
Worcester Polytechnic :match
CUNY City College:match
Columbia: No

Since you have a 34 ACT one of the schools like BU could overlook your GPA though, definitely apply!

most are matches, some low reach - except for columbia…bu might give you a break because of your high act but columbia most likely wont… but who am i to judge for them you never know! if columbia is a dream of yours i say go for it but dont beat yourself up if it doesnt work out

CUNY city college and Wentworth Institute of Technology are perfect matches (safety).

University of Illinois at Chicago is another one you would want to consider as its a match for you.
Worcester Polytechnic and Drexel are low match, due to GPA.
BU is low match.

Boston University is #41 of National Universities. According to the Boston University acceptance graph, they are inclined to accept anybody with your demographics. Keep in mind that your apparent fencing skills, at the competitive BU club, is perhaps a key what would be a reach school. You are likely to get in, despite your low gpa. I can tell your competence by your ACT score. After one year of college, should you receive a 4.0, which does not sound unlikely, you could transfer out into a much better school. In this sense, Columbia is not necessarily a high reach; after getting As Freshman year of College and dominating BUs fencing club, they might be inclined to accept you as a transfer student.

You’ll get into Drexel and Boston U. They’re not difficult schools. Your upward trajectory of GPA is good, and ACTs are well above average for those schools. And yes, the fact that you went to a private school will help with how colleges view your GPA. Don’t listen to this Vader kid.

BU: reach-high reach
Drexel: SafetyReach
Stony Brook: Safety
Wentworth Institute of Tech: Saftey
Worcester Polytechnic: I have no reach at all
Columbia (giant reach): Very VERY VERY VERY VERY high reach. Almost next to impossible. xD
