So here's my situation, I ended high school very strongly, 3rd in my class of 240 students, with a 3.9 GPA, two AP courses and a crapload of honors stuff. I applied to Grove City College, got in, and started out as an EE major. First semester was rough, got a 2.96 GPA. Decided this isn't the school for me (no, not because it was hard, because of many other things), I want to transfer to Pitt main campus. I applied yesterday and got my transcripts and all that forwarded.

So how long should I expect before I get an answer? Will it maybe go quicker because I'm applying later and as a transfer applicant?

And second, what do you think are my odds of getting in? Because I have completed fewer than 24 credits as of now, I believe they WILL look at my high school transcript, which is very strong, so my only weak point is my 2.96 from my first semester here, which still isn't THAT bad considering 1) EE and 2) Grove City.

So do you think I'll be alright?

And then the next concern is getting a spot in the dorms...

Oh and also, do I have any good chances at scholarships? Again, very strong HS record, but somewhat weak first semester GPA from my current school. Thoughts?

Heck, no... So you say that you were the top 3 at your high school? Your class must've been very stupid. I say this because you said you had a 2.9 GPA at a freaking CC. You should not be optimistic at all. Sorry buddy. :P

PS: I'm a 10-Year Old who probably know more stuff than you.

Yeah, um izx2... the average SATs are higher at Grove City College than at UPitt. I think you have a pretty good chance. The high school grades are great and the college grades are not good but they could be worse. Does UPitt look at SAT scores for transfers after only 1 year? If so, what did you get?

UPitt does indeed ask for SAT scores in addition to both your high school and college transcripts. I forgot to mention that in the OP, I got a 1250 on the SATs.

Is the 2.96 really that bad? Seems quite typical of first semester engineers, actually. I really don't know any fellow freshman engineers who got above a 3.1 except for a few. And GCC is definitely know for being strenuous.

I think you'll get in. 1250 is above their average. Also, only 46% of incoming freshmen are in the top 10% and I think the acceptance rate for incoming freshman is over 50%. So your high school record would definately qualify you for admissions. On Pitt's website for transfers it says for engineering guidelines: "2.5 minimum GPA (2.75 GPA preferred; 3.5 GPA for bioengineering)" The acceptance rate for transfers is around 42%. So you surpass the preferred GPA...I think you're in good shape.

Another question, if you have a couple inaccuracies on your application that ARE correct on your transcript, will it really matter? I put the wrong year for the date that I took the SATs on my app, and also, for a college course I took in high school, I put down that it was 3 credits and I remembered today it was actually 4. But both of these would show properly on my transcripts (SAT year on HS trans, and college credit on my trans from that uni). Are those inaccuracies on my app gonna make me look bad or will the guys who make the decision probably never even see it?
