Chances for getting into UCLA and UC Irvine Nursing?

Hello!

I’m an OOS African american female Applicant from New York City. I’m currently on my gap year right now and I’m actually finishing up my CNA Certification so by the time my application goes out, I will be a CNA at a Nursing home. I believe that my CSU GPA is a 4.14 GPA(idk if that’s the same as my weighted gpa, my school does unweighted gpa), this includes 10th-12th. I have taken rigorous courses and have gotten A’s on all of them. I only have 1 B grade on my transcript and that’s an 88 in AP Biology but I got a 93 the next semester so it’s okay. Umm, I’ve volunteered at hospitals and all that jazz. My ACT score is currently a 26 but SDSU superscores and on that test I got a 33 in reading so I’m retaking it in October and I’m expecting a 31+ on the ACT(I’ve been studying like crazy). For my Gap year, I went to do a service project in New Zealand and Fiji and I want a career in International Travel Nursing. Think I’ve got what it takes?

P.S. I don’t want to go anywhere else, if any of you have any advice for me to be an even stronger applicant, I will gladly take it, help me out west coast people!

You do realize that there is no need-based financial aid for out-of-state students, right?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1903428-faq-uc-historical-frosh-admit-rates-by-hs-gpa.html can give you some idea of past admit rates, but nursing will be a more competitive major to get direct admission to.

my parents make a lot of money so i barely get need based financial aid in-state or anywhere else. i’d have to go to a state school in NYC to get a cheap tuition but i’d rather not. @ucbalumnus

can you give me advice on how to have a better chance in getting in to UCLA/UCI? or am i already there? @ucbalumnus

Here is the 2016 Nursing admit stats for UCI:

Fall 2016 Freshman Applicants: 2,264
Fall 2016 Freshman Admits: 82 (3.5% admitted)
Average UC GPA: 4.25 GPA
Average Total SAT Scores: 1962

With a 3.5% acceptance rate, it is impossible to chance any applicant. You look competitive and all you can do is apply and hope for the best. UC’s do not consider URM status for admission purposes.

I am unable to find any specific statistics for UCLA Nursing, but you should assume it has a similar or lower acceptance rate than UCI.
