Chances for Goldwater nomination?

<p>For a friend...</p>

<p>Sophomore considering applying for Goldwater. Hard course-load freshman year, gpa a bit low (3.54) but a 3.7 with all college classes are included. Over a year of research in the same lab, co-author on a project presented at international conference. 2 papers submitted, first and second author. </p>

<p>Does he/she have a shot?</p>

<p>Why is your friend asking here, instead of asking his or her house fellowships tutor?</p>

<p>I’d say the GPA is way too low to be competitive. The scholarship guidelines require awardees to be in the top 25% of their class. A 3.54 might not do it for Harvard- s/he would have to check with the registrar what their rank is.</p>
