any safety schools I should look into?
You should have safety schools. MIT and Stanford and Berkeley are always considered to be long shots. However, I think that your chances are pretty good for something on your list. Have you compared your SATs with average incoming SATs for each of your schools?
Also, is your listed GPA weighted or unweighted? This makes a huge difference particularly with all those APs.
700 on the math SAT is low for MIT. When I was there the median math SAT score for incoming freshmen was 800, and I expect this is probably still true.
I made a mistake listing my SAT Scores, 770 Math, 700 CR & Writing. My GPA is unweighted 4.0
i think you will get into some reaches. Look into some ivies where affirmative action is strong like cornell or princeton. I could see you getting into some of those ED/SCEA.
You will get into GTech, but Stanford CMU CS and UCB are all tougher than Cornell or Princeton.
Gtech-Safety
Carnegie Mellon- Match
UCB- Low Reach
Stanford-High Reach
Applying ED for CM might make it a low match/ safety
@jewlion When you mean Math Olympiad, do you mean USAMO?
I have to disagree with @VANDEMORY1342.
Georgia Tech - Reach
Carnegie Mellon - High Reach
Stanford - High Reach
UCB - High Reach
Your course rigor is good, and your test scores are good too (except that SAT should be at least 1530 for these schools) Even so, these schools are all top ten for computer science (Georgia Tech = 6, UCB = Stanford = Carnegie Mellon = MIT = 1), so these are reaches for anyone who applies.
Best of Luck!!
yes Math Olympiad = USAMO
@collegeboundprogrammer @jewlion
there rankings do not matter, there mission for undergraduate admissions matter. For Gtech
Carnegie, and UCB stats are more important as these schools are much less holistic especially for their engineering and computer science majors. However Stanford is VERY holistic. As a URM he has a big hook for these schools especially with your ACT and SATII scores so he has a good shot at all of them. Also being instate for Gtech with your scores and hook make you a shoe-in as they accept around 50% of instate students.
Just make sure you write good essays and your recommendations are good.
Your chances are pretty strong for Georgia Tech and you would be a slightly above average candidate for Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, and Stanford.
