Chances for Grinnell College??

I really want to go to a small liberal arts school. However my parents want me to go to the local public university because of distance and financial reasons. Grinnell College is the closest LAC I could find to my hometown, that is still a prestigious school. The school is basically my only shot at going to a small LAC, and thus I really want to get in.

My stats arean't great though...
GPA: 4.7 weighted
ACT: 28 -33 on reading though
Senior year classes:
AP Psych
AP Calculus AB
AP English Literature and Composition
AP Environmental Science
AP Government and Politics
AP Economics Micro/Macro

4 on AP US test
4 on AP English Language and Composition test
Extra-Curriculars:
Speech Team -Captain, Fashion Club - Founder and President, Ambassdors Club - President, Drama Club - Officer and Thespian, NHS Member, Mock Trial Club, Peer Leadership Network member
I also volunteered at my mosk during high school; I have a total of about 550 hours

My ethnicity is Indian - if that matters

I am planning on interviewing next week with an admissions counselor. He will also be the person who is reading and reviewing my application.
** I know I will have really good recommendations and my essay is strong as well.

If anyone has any insight on my chances, I would love to hear it.

I would definitely say you have a shot. I’m in the same situation trying to get into an LAC, with the exact same ACT score. However, I’m taking the ACT one more time to try to push it to 30 and I suggest you take it one more time as well. Those 2 or 3 extra ACT points can really help you out.

Take a look at page 9 of the Common Data Set for Grinnell. If you are hoping to get merit aid, you will probably need to raise your test score. Talk frankly to the admissions person about the criteria to qualify for merit aid since cost is a significant consideration for you. You might also want to consider taking the SAT - some students do significantly better on that test. But be sure to practice - it makes a difference.
