Your unweighted GPA is a little low overall, but if you’re a first-gen college student and an immigrant try playing up the hardships you’ve had to go through while referencing the impact it’s had on your grades. Subtlety is a difficult art.

Consider taking SAT subject tests and the ACT, and retake that SAT. Aim for a 2100-2200 on the SAT and/or a 32/33 on the ACT.

Your chances aren’t bad, I think, but they could be better. Your hooks will help you.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to go to Grinnell? It’s a good school, but I think of it as almost exclusively English-focused. That said, I’m planning to apply to Johns Hopkins (a medical/bio-focused school) as a computer science major, so who knows.

Here’s my chance thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1366121-chance-me-please-these-colleges.html

thanks and i saw that they are pretty good for sciences so with a little research saw that it could a potential fit. thanks

i think that you have a shot at grinnell, but you need to bring up you test scores and gpa a bit, but i wouldn’t worry too much about it. you will definitely be a fierce applicant with these stats. just make sure you stand out! you may want to consider university of wisconsin, case western reserve, university of michigan(this might be a reach for you)

thanks any other opinions?

bump…

Unless things have changed, Grinnell doesn’t require SAT IIs or use your writing score. See the Common Data Set for Grinnell-especially Section C.

And Grinnell has outstanding sciences - excellent prep if you are pre-med assuming you take the necessary classes prior to your MCAT.

what can i do to improve my EC’s???

bump…
