Chances for Harvard/Cornell/Penn/Brown/Johns Hopkins/Duke

GPA: 3.77/4.06
SAT: 2150 (CR:690/M:680/W:780)
SAT II: 780 Bio E / 720 Math II
Hooks: Hispanic URM
EC: several jobs and clubs, nothing spectacular
Intended major: Bio/pre-med

Do I have a shot at any of these schools?

You’re saying that Johns Hopkins would be a reach for a Hispanic with a 4.0 and a 2400?

Damn, I see your point. Thanks!

You definitely have a shot if your essays and recs come out amazing and show you to be a super interesting person, but you shouldn’t count on definitely getting into any of them

Thanks gigi, I’m working on making those essays awesome right now actually. So much anticipation!

You need to be spectacular at something.

Your grades are great.
Your SATs are great.
Your ECs are ok.
Your essays?

As of right now, nothing is spectacular. These are all mid to high reaches until you can stand out in some way.

[Chance me back](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1594592-chance-me-johns-hopkins-university.html)

Thanks for the advice. At this point my essays are my only outlet to be spectacular so I’ll work extra hard on those.

I’m currently writing about my experiences being overweight and losing the weight and how it has affected my development. I feel like this is good because it makes me appear dynamic and it gives some background on my interest in health and on being a doctor. Would you recommend this as an essay subject?

These are mid to high reaches. I would agree with the others. Sorry but as I well know from having a crappy GPA myself (yours is far better than mine though) that colleges look at GPA more, and it’s not a 4.0, so it’s going to be hard.

I feel you john. I too wish I worked on my GPA more. But alas, there’s no point thinking on it too much, it it was it is. College GPA is a new opportunity.

GPA: Not at all bad, but could be better
SAT: I’d say about the same
SAT IIs: Great job on Bio, but Math II could be a lot better
ECs: nothing spectacular, but you can make something of it

I’d say your chances are on the slim side (just as they are for everyone), but not null. But apply anyway! After all, the worst they can do is not admit you. Just make sure to have a few backup plans, maybe some state schools or other good, less selective colleges. In all cases, I wish you the best of luck applying!

Thanks Henry! I do have some back up VA in state schools. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. It can’t hurt to apply haha

I’d say all reaches too mainly because they all are very selective. Everyone who applies has 4.0s and stellar SATs so I think you need something to make you stand out. Raise your SAT a bit, preferably 2250+ if you can. Good Luck!

I wish I could but its too late now. Thanks though! I need a miracle or two :-P

Lol, just trade me your CR and W scores for my math scores. My superscore becomes a 2210 and so does yours! Problem solved! xD

Haha I wish! I was scoring 2200s and 2300s on practice tests beforehand (I took like 15 practice tests). But I guess I just blanked or something for math and reading.

I’d say they’re all reaches, but they are for everyone. If you write good essays, you’ll probably get into at least 1 of them.
Chance back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1590399-chance-me-top-schools-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Haha yeah that’s what I’m hoping for. Getting into even just one of these schools would be amazing.

I wonder what my chances would be if I weren’t Hispanic.

Your essays might make the difference, make sure you do really well on those! Your Sat’s could be a little better too, but I think your SAT II’s are good so that might make up for it.
Good Luck on all your choices!
But definitely, all of these are reaches for almost anyone considering the sheer number of applicants to these colleges. But you’ve definitely got a legitimate shot at it! Even if not all, you’ll get into some for sure.
Good Luck Again!
