Hi everyone,

V 730

SAT IIs

currently working on a research project for competition and studying for the chemistry olympiad.

Will someone please give me a few pointers about my chances for admission to the aforementioned schools? Thanks very much.

according to me u have a damn good chance

Like always, Harvard and Stanford are shots for anyone. It seems you have a good shot, but there isn't a "hook"
JHU should be a good chance

sorry guys, but idk if you observe the same problem i observe...but...where is the sat ii writing..? lol u won't go to any one of those universities without that, but other than that slight problem lol, i think you have a great shot at jhu. For stanford and harvard it really depends on a hook and how much more diverse you are than someone else applying to the school, but u do belong in the pool of applicants for harvard and stanford, =) That's my two cents and i hope u copy/paste ur sat ii writing score (if u took it) so someone can make a better assessment

Thanks for all your assessments.

I took the "old SAT". Starting with 06, we have a new sat (which is not required for private schools, but which I will take for UCs), as well as new sat II requirements. About my sat ii writing: I haven't taken it yet because I heard starting with our generation, we do not need it. Is it required for private schools?

I don't see a hook for harvard or stanford. You will probably get lost in the many applicants they receive.

I was thinking of my scientific competitions as my "hook". eg. research projects and science olympiad. I have also competed in the natl ocean science bowl team. I would really appreciate more input about this kind of "hook". eg. whether a lot of ppl do these activities too.

Science competitions/research projects/science olympiads are common at my school and for undergrad science applicants at harvard/stanford. If you were an intel or or working with a big biotech company/have published work, that would be a hook.

I'm a politics major and I'm in science olympiad lol, its not much of a hook unless you got to nationals. What grade are you in? and what state?

Your scores and academic qualifications seem strong. However, at this point, it's all a matter of presentation. If your recommendations are extremely enthusiastic, and if you demonstrate your academic passion properly in your application, you have a very good shot. If your presentation is weak, your application will fade into the masses at Harvard and Stanford.

Joey

reply to nealious' question

Im a junior in CA.

Why do ppl in these forums go "bump"?

hmm.

...bump...bump

AYN RAND!!!
thats really excellent about your essay, congrats. i think youre auto in to JHU. stanford is so haphazard, same basically to harvard. youre just one of several applying to 2 very prestigious schools. good luck!

and bump.....bump....... WTF is that? (i'd bet its some ghetto phrase i'm not accustomed to.)

Hi Supermehta!

Hahaha. checked out your pf. and found your xanga ^^...WHOA dude. Got into Harvard? EXxcelLenT! WH00t!

and I have no idea either wth "bump" means -__-' ' ' ...yea, I did it cuz OTHER PPL WERE DOING IT ON other threads...er, yea, that's some Ayn Rand individualism there for u...lol.

bump = bring up my port.

fr0gjaywalker, you're a junior. relax. you'll probably do well on the writing portion when you take the new SAT. it'll probably be easier to make an assessment of you later on. yes, find a strong hook.

Thanks for everyone's advice. ^^ I really appreciate the input.

bump...

Hi everyone again.

I just learned of a summer program called RSI...which is very competitive. From my stats, can you guys please give input on my chances of getting into this program?

Thanx again.

[edit]

For PSAT scores, our school will be getting them in January. But they will probably be around what I got on SAT I.

And if this makes any difference in the decision: I go to a highly competitive, leading hs in CA.

harvard-westlake?

fisrt school that comes to mind.

...BuMpity BuMp bUmP

Oh I forgot to mention I interned at Seagate Technologies back in 8th grade. While the experience was significant for me, I'm not sure if this is significant part on the app, since they only look at 9-12 grade.

WHY IM STILL IN THIS THREAD:
