Please look at my class rank after you see my GPA

i think you are a competitive applicant but it’s hard to get into for everyone

GPA of 3.15 makes it very unlikely to get into a highly competitive school like Harvard- was that a typo?

That gpa would be an extreme outlier at HYP. Perhaps your learning disability justifies it? Nice test scores. Definitely competitive. If I had your ACT score… :D

Yeah but it’s the top 10% and many top schools have admitted that GPA is kind of an unrelated number if it’s not correlated well with class rank.

True, but consider that the 10 people ahead of him have ~3.5-3.9 unweighted gpas. Extremely unlikely, but still a possibility. He definitely has a rigorous schedule. I maintain that he is a competitive applicant.

LOW GPA, but since you Are African-American and are a minority (and low income etc.) i think u have a low reach instead of a reach for Harvard (even the best of applicants have a low reach). Harvard and all these other prestigious liberal universities love diversity, and thus if you are one of the more qualified African American’s applying, u have a good chance.
Your GPa is the only bad factor, and i can assume it is low bc u took many APs?. Your ACt is superb and your EC are quality even though i didnt see any leadership roles (find one!!!).

chance back!

What’s the valedictorian’s GPA?

Thanks and yes, I do have a learning disability. It’s very hard for me to memorize things so for the ACT I had to study for 10+ months ahead of time as well as for the SAT. I know it’s no excuse but a learning disability is something I will have for the rest of my life. So I have to work 10x harder than the average student.

I think you’d have a higher chance with any other ivy league school; harvard is a little bit of a reach. Try somewhere else, like Vanderbilt. Good luck
Chance back?

I would say that you are certainly a solid candidate. However, the lack of leadership position and GPA does hinder you a little bit. All that being said I feel like you can make a compelling case with the learning disability. It will depend on them whether or not they are ok with that.
Thanks Please Chance Back

I think that if you have an upward trend, that you should be within a low reach to Harvard!

Though you should have some safety schools just in cas3, maybe rutgers?

I think that you have a decent chance (low reach) given your great extracurricular activities and URM status. I wouldn’t mention that Christian Science is your religion… it’s kind of like saying you are Scientologist. I know that it is illegal for them to discriminate, but I’m sure it happens.

^I’ll have to disagree there. NEVER lie about your religion, race, etc. on college apps; if an admissions committee rejects you because of your religion, that’s certainly not the school for you (or even a good school for anyone to attend!)

Also, Scientology and Christian Science are VASTLY different.

Who said he should lie about his religion?

Thanks guys! You all are very helpful. More comments are appreciated. I need more helpful feedback from all you wonderful, lovely people.

blackbird2 I haven’t applied to Rutgers but I’m going to add it to my common app I was thinking about Princeton university but I don’t really like the social environment there. And it’s so hot in the dorm rooms… But the students there are really nice and communicative. I got to eat lunch with the undergrads. It’s a really good school but I don’t see myself fitting well there. My top 5 reach schools are Harvard, Yale, Brown,Stanford, and Cornell

Like everyone else pointed out, your gpa is what will kill you but being a URM and since you have a learning disability that might help your chances. Although your scores to gpa ratio suggest your a “lazy genius” stereotype maybe wont appear that way because of the disibility. Other than that everything else looks pretty good.

thank you. What college are you attending if you don’t mind me asking?
