What are my chances?

I know my SAT Score is low I have only taken it once and I was sick I would hope to get between 1800-1900 after taking a prep class.

While High Point is a beautiful school, I didn’t think it was that selective. I would think you are fine.

Bumpity Bump

A question for you…how did you find this school? We discovered it while we were at a soccer showcase w/my son. He loves it and it is one of his top choices. It is my understanding they are trying to increase enrollment.

My school each year has a college fair. That is how I first heard of them… Anyone else … Whats are my chances

Good chances.

Your chances are excellent. The school is definetely on the rise and will be more selective down the road.

Thanks for the chances… How about my chances for a nice scholarship???

Your GPA is great and you have adequate EC’s. The key is the SAT score. You can count it as “money in the bank”. Every 100 point increases equates to 1000’s of dollars in merit award. At your current stats, you could probably count on 2-7K of annual merit money. If you can increase your SAT scores and qualify for the presidential/fellowship scholarships, then your merit amount should be anywhere from 7K- 20K per year, based on M/CR scores of 1200-1400. As you can see, it is wise to study and retake them in order to put that money back into your pocket. Good Luck!

Not to be mean, but High Point is said to be a horrible school, where the selectivity is comparable to a community college. The only people I know who go there are athletes who get full scholarships… and b/c they got accepted nowhere else.

USNWR lists is #1 amongs “colleges on the rise”. We visited and were quite impressed with the campus (of course), but also the school’s philosophy, the faculty, and the small class sizes.

Bump please…

I think that it has a fairly high acceptance rate. Like 45%+. If you get 1900+ with decent ECs, good recs, you should be fine. Be warned, the academic rigor of the school is to be questioned. Campus is sheerly magnificant, not sure how hard it is. Lots of furniture money built everything in last 1-3 years. They modeled their business building after Harvard’s (for real, they bragged about it on a tour). Also, (if this determines how hard a school is), they have about 25-30 Asian students. Not to sound racist, but the school appears to be mainly caucasion students. Gorgeous campus though with state-of-the art facilites.

bumppppppppp

I take voice lessons with a fabulous professor at HPU. However, even she says it is not a selective or competitive school, yet. The brains behind the upheaval that has been happening is Nido Qubein (I went to school with his kids). While the campus and facilities are stupendous, the academics and local life is dire for now and will be undoubtedly before you graduate. If you want to actually learn something at your college, look elsewhere. This is solely my extremely biased opinion based on the people I know there now and the kids from my school who go there (not the best students). All in all, it is a perfect party school, and I won’t knock it because it’s one of the few exciting scenes in HP.

High Point University was ranked by US News and World Report No. 5 among comprehensive (Baccalaureate) universities in the South and No. 1 in Up-and-coming Baccalaureate Colleges (South).

Just FYI

I have noticed that a few posters with connections to High Point have tended to post in a way that may be unintentionally misleading to readers who don’t have the time or energy to verify the underlying facts.

I know a few love High Point and can even understand in a very limited way (like all schools, it’s a good fit for some kids). But in the interest of accuracy, yes High Point was named #5 in the “Baccalaureate Colleges (South) Rankings” (not the comprehensive universities ranking).

The other schools ranked higher than High Point on the list are…

1 Ouachita Baptist University Arkadelphia, AR

2 John Brown University Siloam Springs, AR

3 Erskine College Due West, SC

4 Covenant College Lookout Mountain, GA

And Then…

5 High Point University High Point, NC
