Hello, and thanks in advance for any replies. Ill give you the basics:

Hispanic Male from Miami, Florida
Attends Public High School

APPLYING EARLY DECISION

3.5 Unweighted
4.4 Weighted

Senior Year Courses:
Ap Macro
Ap Govern.
Ap Stats
Ap Eng.
Ap Human Geo.
World Cultures
Free Period (Internship)

SATS:
710 Math
690 English

I have only taken one other Ap besides Senior Year
Ap Enviro. 4 on Test

I AM GETTING ALL A'S 1st Semester of Senior YEar, except in English and Macro.

ALL Honors Classes for Grades 9-11

Good Essays, Good Recs

Visited Emory, Video Visit, Local "Night With Emory"

Extra's are OKAY. Nothing that will totally stand out....

Two Year Internship for Disabled Children (during school, as a period) w/ excellent rec (11-12)

Worked with A Certain Foundation w/ excellent rec. (100 hours) (9-12)

helped children through certain program (50 hours) (9-12)

chamber of commerece in school, with role as treasurer (10,11,12)

I am wondering basically what my chances are of getting in, and if Minority plays a big part at Emory?

P.S. Im Applying Early Decision.

Also:

Im Top 10%

Most Likely in the 9th or 10th %

Both PArents went to college, father has masters
both self employed

50% of my school attends 4 year college
my school is mix of upper middle class and "middle/upper low" students
and it is 70% "minority" - 40% black, 30% hispanic

I would say you have a good shot.
Reasons:
1) URM
2) 1400 SAT
3) Legacy
4) ED
5) Semi-rigorous classes
But your ECs need some improvement. Anything you love to do you could take advantage of?

what school in miami?

Just to clarify, im not legacy...i wish i was though!

I meant both of my parents are college grads..

thanks for the reply...keep em' coming! pleasse

Please!!!!!!!!

you are in. i guarentee it.

URM + 1400 SAT = gold

what school do you go to?

bummmp.....

Do i need to send AP scores? Will this affect admissions???

buuuuuuuuump

What School Do You Go To? I Used To Live In Miami, Went To Coral Gables

I would be VERY surprised if you didn't get in. You may even want to look at some harder schools (Ivies). Just a suggestion...unless you really LOVE Emory.

you have an awesome shot.

I definietly am really happy to hear i have a shot! Do you guys go there? What does the campus feel like..especially with only 5000 undergrad? When i visited the school, it was during the summer, and classes were not in session. Any suggestions for application?

You will get into emory bro

anyone else??

You are in, although you're also very likely in RD too. You MIGHT want to aim higher, unless you really want Emory. I have spent alot of time at Emory - its absolutely beautiful and the academics are top notch - but be aware the students have a reputation of being rich, cliquey, and slightly cold-shouldered. The social scene revolves around bars in the highlands usually, frat parties, and house parties. There is plenty to do in that regard.

Which schools would you reccomend to "aim higher" for? I really like UPENN, but never thought i could get in. Your help is realllly appreciated...

PS...what makes me a strong candidate that you would reccomend me to shoot higher?
