I would say your 1400 SAT and top 10% as a URM is more than enough for Emory. I think Penn will be too much of a reach, but Cornell, Northwestern, and WUSTL would be reasonable ED reaches for you. Emory is a great place though.

I would have to disagree with slipper about Penn. If you apply ED I still feel you have a great shot of getting in. I have known tons of people with a less stellar record than you who have gotten into Penn ED. If it is REALLY your dream/#1 choice then by all means apply ED.

No school is "higher"; simply harder to get in. You've got a reasonable shot at Penn if that's where you want to go. The social scene and economic diversity at Penn are virtually identicial to that at Emory.

But why are you applying ED if it isn't your first choice?

I guess i was thinking ED to Emory because its a great school and i didnt think i had a chance not going ED. What others schools would you reccomend?

There's nothing wrong in deciding that you are clear on your number one choice and going for it! I think an Hispanic male with 1400+ SAT scores has a shot everywhere (there just aren't very many), but it doesn't mean you have to take the shot.

I don't want to recommend other schools. Penn and Emory are in fact very similar in their profiles. (Probably the next schools with the closest profile is Northwestern and Yale.)

What would my chances be for Yale? OR how about Colombia??

thanks

For a Hispanic male with 1400 SAT scores and reasonable grades, probably 50/50. Bring the SAT score up 100 points and you are probably a shoe-in.

Columbia is very different from Penn and Emory because of its core curriculum, and the student profile, impact of fraternities, etc., is very different.

which other schols do i have a good chance for?

All.......

hahaha i wish

columbia** lol not to be confused with the country colombia

i hope i get into emory....BUUMMMP

Whats northwestern like? How would would you compare it to Emory?

bummp..

What about ED 1 to Cornell hospitality???

And ED 2 to Emory???

I have had some interesting traveling (including cuba)....

...........

...........pleeassee

Northwestern kills emory simple as that. And you need to chilax bro..you are in a good posistion. Apply where you wish and the results will be what they will. Its not like us telling you where you have a chance will make any difference in the end.

in what sense does northwestern kill emorY?

if have never visited northwestern.

.......................................

Make sure that $ isn't a consideration for your parents because if you get in ED, you would be expected to go to Emory even if that means passing up major merit aid from places like UF or other Florida public universities, which might give you a virtually full ride.

Your stats are not high enough for you to be in line for Emory Scholar, but you could get need-based aid from Emory if you qualify. You might, though, get even better deals from other colleges where you have a better shot for major merit aid.
